Janice L. Hefner, age 86, of Chester, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2025, at her home. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 AM Monday, January 13, 2025, at First Lutheran Church in Colton. Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Chester. Visitation will be from 4-6:00 PM Sunday, at the Minnehaha Funeral Chapel in Colton.
Jan was born on August 6, 1938, in Jacksonville, Florida, to Clint and Margaret (Mills) Davies and graduated from high school in Jacksonville. She met Merlin Hefner of Chester, South Dakota while Merlin was serving in the Navy in Florida. They were married on February 21, 1958. After their marriage, Merlin convinced Jan to move back to Chester, where they had two children, Marty & Kellie. Jan worked for the grocery store in Chester and later cleaned homes. Merlin passed away on January 21, 2018; one month shy of their 60th anniversary.
Jan was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Colton. She enjoyed playing pitch, dominoes and doing puzzles. She enjoyed tending to her garden and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Jan is survived by her daughter, Kellie (Paul) Kneip; grandchildren, Kristopher Kneip, McKenzie (Drew) Henderson, Morgan Kneip, Jordan (Kelsey) Hefner and Ali Hefner; great-grandchildren, Lincoln, Jax and Ketner Henderson, and Addison and Gunnar Hefner; sister, Florence Campbell; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Merlin, son, Marty Hefner, and a brother, Wade Davies.
