Paul Thomas Anderson, age 87, of Baltic, SD, formerly of Pipestone, MN, passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at Bethany Home in Brandon. A celebration of Paul's life will begin at 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at West Nidaros Lutheran Church, rural Crooks. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Monday, at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Shetek Lutheran Ministries.
Paul was born on March 13, 1937, in Austin, Minnesota, to Harry Julias and Anita (Rosenbrock) Anderson. He grew up in Oakland, MN, and graduated from Austin High School in 1955. After graduation he moved to Oakland, Minnesota, where he worked at a meat locker and the elevator. On June 4, 1960, he married Janice Rae Cech in Austin. They later moved to Hills, Minnesota, where Paul managed the Hills Coop Service elevator for ten years. Paul finally realized his dream when he purchased his own farm in 1978 between Pipestone and Holland. He continued to farm until his retirement. Paul and Jan moved to Baltic in 2011 to be closer to two of their daughters, and they finally moved to Bethany Meadows in Brandon, SD, in the summer of 2024.
Paul furthered his education by taking the Land O’ Lakes Management Course and attending the Lamb & Wool Program at Minnesota West Community and Technical College. He was a past member of the Hills Fire Department, Board Clerk for Martin Township in Pipestone County, FFA and 4H member and leader, active in the Optimist Club of Hills, served on the board of the Rock County Cooperative Extension, member of the Pipestone County and Minnesota Board of Pork Producers, and was a current member of West Nidaros Lutheran Church. He was a lifelong Minnesota Vikings fan and greatly enjoyed his fishing trips to Northern Minnesota and the Missouri River, and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Jan, Brandon, children: Jacqueline (Paul) Turner, Bingham Lake, MN, Dana (Todd) Sundal, Baltic, SD, Matthew (Deb) Anderson, Darlington, WI, Heidi (Dennis) Steineke, Hartford, SD, and Mark (Tammy) Anderson, Ft. Pierre, SD; grandchildren: Emily (Cody) , Windom, MN, John (Bailey) Turner, Bingham Lake, MN, Elizabeth (Cameron) Paul, Mitchell, SD, Hannah (Evan) Brown, Baltic, SD, Will (Kelsey) Steineke, Sioux Falls, SD, Rose (Steven) Bates, Raeford, NC, Allison (Reed Tonak) Sundal, Volga, SD, Grace Steineke, Madison, SD, and Seth Sundal, Baltic, SD; six great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Anita Anderson, grandson, Lucas Sundal, and a sister, Pat Ehlert.
