Robert L. Cottrell

Robert L. Cottrell, 90, of Elk Point, South Dakota passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at Westwood Specialty Care in Sioux City, Iowa. Bob was born on December 12, 1932 to Erdie Cottrell in Mason City, IA. He was raised by his grandparents, Harry Sr. and Avis Cottrell. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1950. He was a jack of all trades; master of few. He had experience in truck driving, carpentry, electrician, mechanic, and sales. He enjoyed telling jokes and stories, bowling, music, singing, dancing, and especially fishing. He was married in the 50's and had three children, Bonnie Jo, Steve, and Cindy. In October of 1963 at a bowling alley, he met the love of his life, Pam Belding, and they married on May 23, 1964. They celebrated nearly 54 years together before her passing in April of 2018. They were blessed with four more children, Brian, Penny, Tonya, and Jason. In 1965, he went to work as an inside salesman for Westinghouse Electric Supply and retired from there in 1993 after 28 years. He did not stay retired long. He worked for the University of South Dakota as an electrician and for the Union County Sheriff's Office as a dispatcher. In 2003, they moved to Parker, SD where he officially retired. He enjoyed traveling with Pam, working on small engines, and his four legged "kids". Bob is survived by his children, Bonnie Jo Burr, Steve (Bobbie) Cottrell, Cliff Lyon, Brian (Samantha) Cottrell, Tonya (Danny) Clymer, Jason (Paula) Cottrell; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; his siblings, Eva (Cottrell) Stevens, Paul Corbin, Cathy (Sonny) Murphy, Mary Stoneburg, Susie (Pete) Muir, and Mike (Val) Corbin and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Erdie Corbin, his wife, Pam, his daughters, Cindy Monoghan and Penny Hayden, and great grandson, Bentley Cottrell; his siblings, Harry Cottrell Jr, Thelma (Cottrell) Bean and Patricia (Corbin) Rains and a nephew, Joe Corbin.
