Lonnie Edward Hertenstein, 81, of Batavia, passed away Saturday, January 20, 2024, at his home. He was born August 11, 1942, to John and Vera (Draper) Hertenstein. He was united in marriage to Betty McCormick on May 19, 1962, in Wayne City, Illinois. Lonnie and Betty were high school sweethearts. After marriage they went on to move to Plano and raise three children. Lonnie was a drywall taper for 46 years; he took his work seriously and was very detail oriented. He also served as a Pastor for many years at Earlville Baptist Church, and several others. He was an active member at Life Church of St. Charles, Illinois, for almost 30 years. He volunteered at the Batavia Food Pantry and loved serving others. He enjoyed fishing, watching westerns, early morning walks to McDonalds for coffee with the guys, spending time with his grandchildren, going on cruises, attending car shows, his pocketknife collection, and Betty's cooking and baking. One of the last things he said about his adored wife Betty was "She is my best friend!". He will be missed dearly by his family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife; Betty Hertenstein, his children; Ken (Lulu) Hertenstein, Ed (Teresa Stire) Hertenstein, Lonna (Bob) Anderson, grandchildren; Jessica (Dan) Kuster, Grace Anderson, Jacob Anderson, a sister; Mardel (George) Manion, and a niece and three nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents. A visitation will take place Saturday, January 27, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 10:00 a.m. at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Ave, Batavia, IL 60510. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, alz.org.
