Lorraine Vera Davis, 91 of Sandwich passed away April 28, 2021 at Willow Crest Nursing Home. She was born January 17, 1930 in Shabbona ,IL to the late Warren and Violet (nee Pettenger) Miller.
She worked hard all of her life. Babysitting and detasseling corn as a teenager. Starting in 1956 she worked at Ho-KA Turkey Farm picking up turkeys that were too cold to walk and throwing them on a wagon as she walked the fields following the tractor. After moving to Rochelle, IL in 1956 she was employed at Caron Spinning cleaning sheep wool and then spinning skeins of yarn. She also did seasonal work at Del Monte Canning while working full time at Caron Spinning. In 1963 she moved to Sandwich and started working at General Carbon. Her employment ended when she retired after 35 years with CTS Knights.
She always looked forward to spending time with family and friends. Especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren wishing they all lived closer. She loved all animals, but cats were her favorite.
She is survived by her son Roger McCleskey of Sandwich, daughter Linda (David "Dakota") Hulne of Sandwich; step-son Terry (Gail) Buckman of Houghton, MI and step-daughter Shirley (Doug) Pittman of Ashton, IL; her grandchildren (she was known as Gran Gran by all). Kailynn (Jayson) Darby, Cindy (Jeff) Weymouth, Thomas (Susan) Gifford and Maryann (Chris) Soraparu, as well as 6 step-grandchildren; her great grandchildren Jeffery (Ashley) Weymouth, Bryce (Kerstine) Weymouth, Jacob (fiancé Gabby McCann) Gifford, Lauren (fiancée Patrick Morrison) Gifford, Evelyn Young and Mikalah, Bianca and Carson Soraparu and Taytum, Hallie and Laci Darby, as well as 17 step-great grandchildren and her 8 great great grandchildren as well as 38 step great-great grandchildren; her sister Connie Boelkes and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her spouses, the late Opal McCleskey and Lawrence Buchman and her siblings Warren Miller Jr. and Joyce Miller.
Interment Lawnridge Cemetery, Rochelle, IL on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at the VFW, 713 S. Main St., Sandwich immediately following the interment. Arrangements entrusted to Conboy-Westchester Funeral Home. For info 708-F-U-N-E-R-A-L.
