Maria Martha Spaeth, age 52, of Yorkville, IL, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at Valley West Community Hospital in Sandwich, IL. She was born on August 1, 1963, in Chicago, IL the daughter of William Terrance and Carmella (Aiello) Crowley.

Maria was united in marriage on September 19, 1987 in Bartlett, IL to Mr. Kenneth M. Spaeth and they spent the next 28 happy years of their lives together. She was an active member of New Life Church in Yorkville, IL. Maria was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and aunt who will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.

A registered and licensed dietitian with an advanced degree in nutritional studies, community nutrition feeding programs and science, Maria dedicated her life to fighting poverty and hunger in America. As the volunteer Executive Director of the Kendall County Food Pantry from 2008 to 2016, Maria was instrumental in expanding the pantry's resources and capabilities to meet the needs of some 7,000 people a month. The National Association of Professional Women in April 2016 recognized Maria's outstanding leadership and commitment to the Kendall County Food Pantry by inducting her into its VIP Woman of the Year Circle.

Maria earned a master's degree in business administration from Northern Illinois University in 1986; served as a dietician at Alexian Brothers Medical Center from 1986 to 1993, a diabetes educator and dietician at Elmhurst Hospital from 1993 to 2003. In addition to her work with the Kendall County Food Pantry, Maria was a past chairman of the Kendall County PADS program.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth M. Spaeth; her eight children, Rebecca Marie Spaeth, Kimberley Ann Spaeth, Tyler Thomas (Ruth) Spaeth, Bridget Lee Spaeth, William Kyle Spaeth, Dylan James Spaeth, Spencer Joseph Spaeth, and Tera Kaylee Doll; her parents, William and Carmella Crowley of Scottsdale, AZ; her brother, Thomas (Linda Pisani) Crowley of Roselle, IL; also several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Hope Ann Roberts.

A Funeral Service was held at 4:00 pm on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at the Larson-Nelson Funeral Home, 1617 North Bridge Street in Yorkville, IL with Pastor Jon Lawson, officiating. Interment will be private. Visitation was held from 11:00 AM until the Hour of Service on Saturday, June 25 2016 at the Larson-Nelson Home in Yorkville, IL.

Maria has been a blessing to myself and my family. When my family needed help she was there to listen and assist. When my nephew was in my custody she was there to help and when she needed craft items for her fund raisers I did what I could to help her. I am deeply saddened that she is gone but knowing that the angels have a new recruit is the only things that bring me comfort. My deepest sympathies go out to her Husband and 8 children, she was taken too soon.
