Alice Lorraine Arnison (nee Pikkarainen)

Nov. 16, 1932 - May 29, 2021

NORTHBROOK, IL - Alice Lorraine Arnison (nee Pikkarainen), 88, of Northbrook, formerly of Paddock Lake, WI, passed away May 29, 2021 at Covenant Living in Northbrook, IL. She joins her beloved husband, Thomas Miller Arnison, who passed away in 2013.

Alice was the loving mother of Nancy Arnison of Minneapolis, MN; Lynn (Leonard) Kaliski of Palatine, IL; and Thomas (Michele) Arnison of Deerfield, IL. She was cherished grandmother of Jeanne Kaliski and "Grandma Alice" to Jackie and James LeJeune.

Alice was born in Crocus, North Dakota on November 16, 1932. She was the adored only child of Nora Alice (Falls) and Abner Isaac Pikkarainen, both of large Finnish families. Her early childhood was spent in the small towns of Crocus, ND, Michigan, ND and Clyde, ND, where she remembers roller-skating in her father's grocery store. When Alice was in 3rd grade, the family moved to St. Paul, MN for two years, then to Waukegan, IL. Alice attended Waukegan High School, was an executive secretary at Deepfreeze, and attended Lake Forest College.

She met Tom Arnison at a dance class and they married on November 14, 1953, forming a loving partnership that lasted the rest of their lives. They lived in Northbrook for 36 years, raising their children with fun, affection, travel, pets and unforgettable summers at Paddock Lake. Alice worked at Covenant Village and was active in Grace Lutheran Church in Northbrook.

Upon retirement, Alice and Tom moved to Paddock Lake for the next 21 years, enjoying and caring for the lake. They traveled widely and spent warm winters on Maui. Alice was an avid sports fan and loved reading. She served on Friends of the Community Library Board, was a devoted book group participant, and enjoyed Bible Study at Christ Lutheran Church. In 2010 Alice and Tom moved into the Covenant Village Northbrook community, where they continued their active retirement, and delighted in living near many old and new friends.

Alice's greatest joy was spending time with her family. She touched the lives of many with her kind and gentle nature. She was witty, fun, generous and thoughtful beyond measure. Her spirit will live on in the lives of those who knew her.
