Deborah S. Pointer
KENOSHA - It is with profound sadness that the family of Deborah Sue "Debbie" Pointer announce her passing on December 24, 2021 at the age of 68. The brightest of lights, Debbie now shines on us all.
Overflowing with happiness, joy and empathy, Debbie had a passion for life and loved music-especially live music-dancing, children, spending time with family and friends, zip-lining, scuba diving, gardening and talking during movies. Extremely outgoing, she made friends everywhere she went and will be missed by many.
Born and raised in Oak Harbor, OH, she showed horses in 4H as a girl, loved wearing the Halloween costumes her Dad made every year, and helping her Grandmother clean their little country church on Saturday afternoons. Her job was to clear the bulletins left behind in the hymnals, but she spent more time playing in the balcony with her cousins. Her first (paying) job was at the local Five & Dime, and in high school her classmates voted her Miss Congeniality.
Debbie moved to Wisconsin in 1998 and in 2000 became a member of the Kenosha community. Living in many different homes over the years, she gravitated toward the downtown area and loved living near the lake; attending local farmers markets, parades, concerts and street festivals.
She held many professions in multiple fields ranging from Deli/Bakery Manager, Sunday School teacher, salesperson, and organic grocery store owner just to name a few. She worked as a medical assistant for many years, eventually taking a position as executive assistant to the Director of Pastoral Care at Cancer Treatment Centers of America for 15 years. Rather than retire quietly, she continued on as an in-home caregiver. She would tell you, however, that her greatest accomplishment was as a mother to her two boys.
Debbie taught love, compassion, forgiveness, and how to look for the silver lining in even the darkest of clouds. She gave great advice even if you didn't ask for it, and was most often right whether you wanted to admit it or not, thank you very much. She was always available as a shoulder to lean on, an extra hand if you needed help, and a smile to brighten your day. Her laugh was contagious and her hugs were legendary.
She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Lucille Ohl, sister Cathy Jo Ohl, and brother Richard "Dick" Hetrick. She is survived by sons: Shawn Joseph and Jeremiah John Pointer; son-in-law Michael Hager; sister JoAnne Harder; sister-in-law Mary Lou Meyer; niece and goddaughter Rhonda Reiter; and many lifelong friends who will all miss her immensely.
Viewing will be held on January 4, 2022 at St. Mary's Lutheran Church, 2001–80th St. in Kenosha at 9:30 a.m. with funeral service immediately following at 11:00 a.m. A memorial service will be held in Oak Harbor in the summer.
