I have always been aware of and greatly admired Dick and Rick and their incredible athletic prowess. Who hasn't?! My husband, a triathlete, saw them at a number of competitions, including Kona Ironman, and says that he remembers Dick as quiet and humble. He, too, had great admiration for the two of them and their outstanding accomplishments. I cried, watching the news report of Dick's passing. An incredible dad, athlete, person, from my distant observation - a man to be admired and acknowledged. I send love and prayers for peace to Rick and all who loved Dick. My sincerest condolences.

I remember Mr Hoyt from my childhood mostly from church or at Ricky's house when they still lived in N Reading on Oak Knoll Rd. Ricky (I still remember him by that name) and I were in kindergarten together (Mrs Ham's class). A bug blond man who had 3 sons I saw receive so much love from him and Judy.

I became involved with Easter Seals and was recruited for summer day camp that was a event to always look forward to each summer.

For how he loved and respected Ricky and his 2 other boys made an impression on me that I will cherish.

Ricky, Russ and Robert I grieve with you and I celebrate the wonderful, wonderful human being that was your dad.

Dear Rick,
I was saddened to hear of your father passing. I have so many memories of you and your family,
While being your PCA. I met you at B.U, 1988, and worked again with you while I was in grad school, 1993. I remember your family loved broccoli with cheese, very MA. Watching you both eat a mountain of pasta before a race,
Listening to the geese near your house in MA. Being terrified as you all did triathlons, the waves lapped over the boat in your swims, especially in Japan! Wow! The experiences you all had! Thank you for the years you all shared with me, as you conquered all those races!!
May your dad Rest In Peace ☮ my friend,
Love,
Sarah Evoy ( Bezel)

Listen, Rick. First of all, my heart breaks for your loss. Secondly, please know your dad and you are truly a legend so I hope you take comfort and pride in that. My son is like you, born with cerebral palsy. He turns five this Wednesday. I am from Lynnfield, MA but have been in Denver 10 years. I know who you are. I know who your dad was and his spirit will live on in my family and in so many other families. My boy, Ben, is smart like you. He is still learning to use his computer so he’s not a pro yet like you. He can’t stand or walk independently yet either but he tries so hard and values work ethic like you. I tell him he can always be proud of his hard work no matter what. I am crying for you, for your family, for your dad and also for my, my family and in gratitude for your inspiration. Your dad needed you to run so well and so fast. God bless you, and thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your father will still look after you in heaven. Your bond is so very special. PS-One last thing, the very same week I met my husband, long before we had Ben, we shared an email exchange about how awesome you and your father are as if God already knew the plan for what our own family would look like some day. I still have it. It was written on this day the year I met my husband, 2009. You’re amazing, Rick. Shine on.

As a parent of a 43 year led woman, who happens to be born with severe CP. the Hoyt’s were always an inspiration to our family. We met them years ago at Worcester State College at a support meeting for augmentive communication. Our family did not allow our daughter’s disability prevent her or us to ignore opportunities for travel, education, exploration in many avenues and supporting her and others like her in any way. Everyday is a learning experience. We have committed our lives to enhance and advocate for All individuals and their families, like ours, to be inspired by people like Dick, Rick and their family to educate their community and the world, that everyone deserves to be respected and enjoy their lives and be a part of their community. Thank you to the entire Hoyt family for All you do everyday to enhance the lives of everyone with and without daily challenges!!!

Please accept my sincere condolences to the entire Hoyt Family and his many friends. I first met Dick in my very first foot race 20+ years ago. He and Rick made an appearance in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts for a Special Olympics 5K. I was struggling trying to run a hill in 80 degree weather. Dick and Rick flew by me but not without a smile and encouragement that yes I can conquer that hill. I will never forget that inspiration or the sight of them just crushing that hill!
I was lucky to watch Team Hoyt in many Boston Marathons and honored to run in their hometown races.
He was a gift to the running community and to all, especially those facing challenges. Because of Dick, so many were able to participate and compete that otherwise never would have had the opportunity.
Godspeed Mr. Hoyt. Your legacy will live on.
Matthew 25:21 "Well done, good and faithful servant!"
