John Gerald O'Callaghan
Nov. 23, 1970 – Nov. 2, 2023
John Gerald O'Callaghan, 52, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on November 2, 2023.
He was born November 23, 1970, to Gerald and Anne (Emerson) O'Callaghan in Milwaukee, WI. John truly was a miracle, having received intrauterine blood transfusions and being born two months prematurely. He was raised in Kenosha, WI, the youngest of six children. He attended St. Mary's Catholic grade school, St. Joseph High School and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. It was there he developed his lifelong love for all things "tech". After working "computer magic" for various companies in the greater Chicago area including Six Flags and Abbott; State Farm brought him to central Illinois. He eventually found a home at BroMenn (Carle) Medical Center, where he was an integral part of the IT team for over 20 years. John met his wife, Kimberly (Good) in July 2002, online, of course. They married November 7, 2003, at St. Lawrence O'Toole Catholic Church in Matteson, IL. They made their home in Normal, IL, where they raised their son, Connor John. Although John dealt with many complex medical issues, he never complained or lost his faith. He was an active member of Epiphany Catholic Church and involved in his son's Cub Scouts. John loved to help others with their computer issues and setting up their home networks or theaters, which he turned into a side business as Computer Coach.
John is survived by his wife, Kim; and son, Connor; his parents, Gerald and Anne O'Callaghan; siblings: Patrick (Sue Huppenthal) O'Callaghan, Anne (Robert Caulk) O'Callaghan, MaryLyn (Todd) Wagner, Timothy (Karen) O'Callaghan, and Peggy (Paul) Bianco; sister-in-law, Jenny (Bob) Harris; many nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friend, Paul Lerner; and fur-baby, Dottie.
The family wishes to thank Fresenius Dialysis Home Care for their assistance and support.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at Epiphany Catholic Church, 1002 E. College Ave, Normal, IL, Saturday November 18, 2023, at 11:00a.m. with Monsignor Eric Powell presiding. Visitation will be held one hour prior to Mass. A Memorial Mass will also be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 7307 40th Ave, Kenosha, WI on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at 10:30a.m.. Visitation will be held one-half hour prior to Mass.
Due to John's unexpected passing, in lieu of flowers, donations to assist with medical expenses and future education fund for Connor O'Callaghan are appreciated.
