Kathleen Leighton Obituary

Kathleen M. (Nolan) Leighton

September 4, 1947 - October 6, 2025

Kathleen (Kathy) M. Leighton passed away peacefully on October 6, 2025 at The Opal assisted-living facility in Spring Hill, Fla. She was born September 4, 1947 in Kenosha, Wisc., to Emmett and Margaret Nolan. She graduated from Kenosha Tremper High School in 1965 and married John Leighton of Arlington Heights, Ill., in July, 1968. They welcomed their son, Michael, in May, 1969.

Kathy and John resided in Milwaukee after John returned from military service in Vietnam. She earned her RN degree in Nursing from Cardinal Stritch College and held several increasingly responsible nursing positions, culminating as a supervisory hospice nurse. After an amicable divorce she retired and relocated to Spring Hill, Fla., in 2016.

In 2018 Kathy lost her sight due to Graves disease. She lived independently in her own home until about one year ago. As she had done for most of her adult life, she helped others by starting a support group for the visually impaired in her community.

Kathy's joys were music, dancing, interior decorating, pets, and helping others.

She is survived by her son, Michael; her brother, Jim (wife, Bobbie), and was predeceased by her parents; and her ex-husband, John.

A celebration of life will be held October 25th at 12 noon in Spring Hill, Fla.
