Kathy Kaye Pence Kurtz

KENOSHA - Kathy Kaye Pence Kurtz, 64, of Kenosha, WI, died peacefully on April 29, 2021 at home. She was born above Rexall Drug store in Crandon, WI; graduating in Rhinelander, WI. Kathy started her automotive career at Montgomery Wards selling tires in Waukegan, IL. She proceeded to work at almost all the automotive stores in Kenosha, being a true professional, ending her career at AutoZone as Manager of Outside Sales. Kathy was extremely dedicated to each & everyone of her customers; going out of her way to get them the right part for their vehicles; which she was extremely good at. Finding parts for many that others could not find. Katy wanted it mentioned that she loved all her customers & it gave her great pleasure to serve each & everyone of them. She had a personal relationship with many of her customers & treated them like family.

Kathy was survived by her siblings: Dan (Lee) Pence, Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Wayne (MaryJane) Pence, Townsend, WI, Peggy (Bruce) Hoormann, Oshkosh, WI, David (Robin) Pence, Burlington, WI, Mark Pence, Post Falls, ID, Kim (Doug) Zwischenberger, Spokane, WA; with numerous nieces & nephews; and sister-in-law, Faye Pence.

Kathy was married to John Kurtz (1981-1994). In the late 90's Kathy and Shelly Shewmake became close friends. Kathy's generosity and kindness will be remembered by Shelly and her children with deep gratitude. Even when their relationship changed in 2014, Kathy continued to be generous and kind. She will be deeply missed by Shelly and her children, Thomas (Christy) Shewmake, Melissa (Vincent Dodson) Shewmake, and Steven Shewmake.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Gary, and her husband John.

We thank her dear friend of many years; Debbie Bonofiglio for her time to help Shelly to care for Kathy in the last months of her life.

Per Kathy's wishes there will be no services held.

We entrust her eternal soul into the hands of the true and living God; who always acts rightly according to his perfect and sovereign will.

Kathy, You will be truly missed. You were like a second mom to me. Everything I seen you, you always gave me the biggest hugs. I'll never forget when I recently left Kenosha and you called me saying you would try getting me my job back at auto zone. It won't be the same going into auto zone anymore seeing your smiling face. Love u so much.

I had the pleasure of working with Kathy for many years, her in the parts dept and me in the paint dept. Together as women in a mans world, we "Rocked it!" Going to the parts store will never be the same, I can see alot of returns in the future. You will be truely missed and your "Legend" will live on. RIP Kathy.
