Mark Hackbarth Obituary

Mark Carrol Hackbarth

1958 - 2019

On February 21st, Mark Hackbarth, 60, rounded third base and headed for his heavenly home, no doubt getting ready to play centerfield for the Angels. He passed away peacefully at Hospice Alliance House, Pleasant Prairie, with his loving family by his side.

Born on Oct. 30, 1958, in Waukegan, Ill., Mark was the son of the late Kenneth and Violet (Campbell) Hackbarth. His incredible work ethic ensured that he never missed a day of school, graduating from Tremper High School in Kenosha, then attending college at Taylor University in Upland, Ind. Mark was an outstanding softball player and was one of the first inductees into the Kenosha Rotary Hall of Fame.

On May 28, 1989 he married Nancy Nordell of Kenosha and during their 29 years of marriage, they experienced the pride and joy of parenting two lovely daughters and four incredible grandchildren making life time memories along the way.

Babies and the elderly were Mark's specialty and during his many years at Metz Medical in Racine, his patients adored him for his contagious smile, his kindness and compassion, his ever-present individually-wrapped mint Lifesavers, not to mention his homemade French silk pie and chocolate chip cookies.

When not traveling and skiing with Nancy or golfing and fishing with the guys, Mark enjoyed grilling out and spending time with his extensive family and friends. His grandkids were his absolute joy because it gave him the perfect excuse to be a kid again, helping them learn to ride a bike or swim or play any of the myriad sports he excelled at.

Mark is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy, of Kenosha; two daughters, Dana (Bubba) Johnson of AZ and Amy (Brett) Loeffler of Kenosha; four grandchildren, Rylan, Colton, Cade and Teagan; two brothers, Dave (Paulette) Hackbarth and Brian (Elizabeth) Hackbarth; and one sister, Beth Ann (Dale) Jensen. He is further survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Hospice Alliance for all their wonderful care and compassion and the Neuro-Oncology Unit at Froedtert and Froedtert South, Dr. Connelly, Dr. Knight and Dr. Khater. Mark donated his brain to the Medical College of Wisconsin Tumor Research Program.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 2nd at Journey Church, 10700 75th St. Kenosha at 12 p.m. A visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you plan memorable experiences with your loved ones. Hold them tight and keep your smiles shining bright - like Mark's.

When I first met Mark I was impressed by his bright smile and sweet countenance. I felt here was a man who was genuine and naturally kind. It is rare to meet such a person. And every single time I saw him, and there were many many times, he always greeted me with that beautiful smile, and always made me the center of his attention. His eyes never shifted when talking to you. The last time I saw him was during the holidays, and even though he was suffering much by then, he still greeted me the same way. He was always so positive and upbeat! When I asked how he was doing, he said Just great! Even though I knew that must not be the case, he did look the part as he held his grin for me! His wife Nanc was a perfect soulmate to him and they were truly blessed to have each other for as long as they did! It is so tragic to lose him, but Mark probably wouldn't want anyone to feel bad for him. I think he would probably say Don't be sad that I died. Instead, be happy that I lived and touched all of your lives! My deepest condolences to Nanc and the family, and to all who were lucky to have Mark in their lives!

Many people come into your life, but very few leave you feeling like you have known them forever. Mark was my co-worker and friend and I will always remember how lovingly he talked about his wife and children. He had such a compassionate heart for our patients always leaving them feeling better and with a smile on their face and love in their heart. I am forever blessed to have known this man. Till we meet again my friend. Thank you for always having kindness in your heart, love in your soul and a compassion for everyone you met.

A life well lived is a life well spent, and boy did Mark LIVE! His donation to the Medical College of Wisconsin is an example of the kind of man he was--caring, compassionate, and forever the guy who just made you feel like your life was worth living, too. He just had a way of making everyone around him feel special. He will be greatly missed. Our love and condolences to Nancy and the rest of the family. God keep you in the palm of his hand during this time. I'm off to hug my family members! Much love
