Michael Horton Obituary

Michael D. Horton

1959 - 2016

Michael D. Horton, 56, of Kenosha, passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2016, at United Hospital Systems-Kenosha Campus, surrounded by his wife and daughter.

Michael was born in Black River Falls, Wis., on Nov. 16, 1959, the son of Gayle and the late Marilyn (Ringlien) Horton. He moved with his family to Kenosha and was educated in the Kenosha school system.

Mike was employed by the Kenosha News in the press room for over 25 years and recently by Poclain Hydraulics as a machinist.

On May 25, 2012, he married Darlene Bell in Kenosha. He and Darlene attended Souls Harbor Pentecostal Church in Kenosha.

He loved gardening, riding his bicycle with his family, swimming, sledding, watching the Green Bay Packers, spending time in the outdoors, especially going on picnics at Petrified Springs Park with his family. He also enjoyed playing basketball and playing guitar. Mike was a hard worker, making him an excellent provider and always putting his family first, which he learned from his father, Gayle.

Surviving Michael are his loving wife, Darlene; his daughter, Melissa; his father, Gayle Horton of Merrillian, Wis.; three sisters, Mary (Dan) MonCatch of Arbor Vitae, Wis., Nancy (Dave) Beegle of Racine, and Kari Horton of Kenosha; and five step children, Victoria, David, DeUndrae, Katrina and Archie. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn; a brother, Robert, both his maternal and paternal grandparents; and two uncles, Spider and Blacky.

A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Proko Funeral Home from 12 noon until the time of the service at 2 p.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his daughter Melissa's name for her college fund.

I'm so sad to hear this. I worked with Mike at the Kenosha News for 16 years. I always liked him, especially his sense of humor. He will be missed.

God took one of his angels home, we are here for only a short time to share the talents God has given us, and he shared all that he could. Now his talents are being used in heaven. Rest in peace.
