Robert Allen Shipman, Sr.

Robert Allen Shipman, Sr. passed away on March 6, 2021 at the Hospice Home in Fond Du Lac. A veteran of the Navy, he achieved rank of SN E-3 while he served during the Vietnam conflict as well as the Philippines, Guam and Cambodia and received honors and medals for his combat tour of duty.
Bob was born on October 4, 1956 in Kenosha, WI to William and Margaret Shipman. In 1974, he married the love of his life, Margaret Rose and joined the armed forces where he completed boot camp at Great Lakes Naval Base. After graduating from special training, he was assigned to the USS Ramsey Escort Destroyer and deployed to the Pacific where he toured in the Philippines, Vietnam, Guam and Cambodia earning the Navy Cross and other medals.
Bob was discharged with full honors in 1977 and went back home to civilian life with his family in Kenosha.
Bob loved his family and worked many different jobs throughout his life as he struggled with PTSD and found his favorite job as a medical courier in Waupun.
He is survived by his two sons: Robert, Jr. and Scott; brothers: William (Mona) Shipman, Michael (Susi) Shipman and Mark (Carrie) Shipman and a grandson, Dakota. He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret A. Shipman; father, William C. Shipman; and wife, Margaret (Peggy) R. Shipman.
A full Military Honors service will take place at the Christian Family Teaching Center Church, 404 S. Webster Ave., Omro, Wisconsin at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 3, 2021 with a luncheon in the church hall following the service. The Celebration of Life service will be officiated by Pastor Ken LaPlante. Funeral arrangements were provided by the Kurki Funeral Home of Fond Du Lac.
The family wishes to thank all the Hospice caregivers that took care of Bob as well as the staff at St. Agnes Hospital and UW Veterans Hospital.

Bob was one of my best friends in 1975 aboard the Uss Ramsey (FFG-2) We referred to him as Bad Bob. R.I.P. my Brother.

To Bob's sons and the entire Shipman family, Please accept our deepest condolences on your profound loss. Bod was always kindhearted, with a war heart and sense of humor that always brought a smile! As your dear Dad is reunited with your Mom in Heaven, may the Legacy of Love carry on in the hearts and lives of all whom he loved. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. May God hold you close at this most difficult of times.
