Susan Rose Obituary

Susan Rose

June 3, 1946 - October 24, 2025

Susan M. Rose (Sue) passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Hospice Alliance Hospice House in Pleasant Prairie, Wis., on October 24, 2025. Born June 3, 1946 in Kenosha, Wis., to Lewis and Helen Strangberg. Sue attended local schools and graduated from Bradford High School in1964. She graduated from St Luke's School of Nursing in 1967 as a Registered Nurse.

She married John M. Rose (Jack) on July 5, 1969 in Kenosha, Wis., and began her 26 year tour as the "Toughest Job in the Navy, a Navy wife." Her daughter was born in Milton, Fla., and her son in Honolulu, Hawaii. Both children were born just prior to moving to their next duty assignment. After an initial job at Kenosha Memorial Hospital, Sue continued her nursing career as the kids got older while the family moved around the county. She retired in 2012 with 30 years as an RN having worked in the OR in Milton, Fla., and as a pediatric office nurse in Alexandria, Va.; Atlanta, Ga.; and Racine, Wis.

With over 56 years of marriage, Sue enjoyed traveling to such spots as Acapulco, Hong Kong, Bangkok, and Maui. But her best memories were the family gatherings in the Outer Banks, N.C. She loved gardening and keeping the house ship shape. Sue also provided over 20 years of volunteer work with NAMI Kenosha. Sue enjoyed her membership at the YMCA as well.

Sue is survived by her husband Jack Rose; her daughter Sita Rose Young (John Young) of Scottsville, Va.; her son Brody Rose (Zenide); and granddaughters Liliana Rose, and Daphne Rose of Washington D.C.; and her sister Karen Strangberg of Kenosha, Wis.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Sunday November 23rd, 2025, at 5 pm at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Kenosha, 8760-37th Avenue, Kenosha, WI 53142. Visitation with the family will be on Sunday November 23rd at the church from 3 pm to the time of the services.

Internment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials in Susan's name can be made to Hospice Alliance of Kenosha or N.A.M.I Kenosha (National Alliance On Mental Illness).

Dear Jack,
I was deeply saddened to learn of Susan’s passing. She was a woman of great warmth and grace whose kindness touched all who knew her. Please accept my heartfelt condolences during this time of profound loss.

You have devoted so much of yourself to helping others through NAMI, offering compassion and strength to so many in their times of need—including me, when I was grieving the loss of my husband. Your guidance and empathy made a lasting difference in my life, and I hope you now feel that same care and support surrounding you.

May the memory of Susan’s love and the many lives she enriched bring you comfort in the days ahead. You and your family remain in my thoughts and prayers.

With deepest sympathy,
Gretchen Koehler-Swaney

Sue and Jack are truly community servants, and treasured by all that knew them. Their ongoing and outstanding work with NAMI is well known. Sue always had a smile, was so fun to interact with, and always was supportive. Her and Jack are to be admired.

My sister and I were so lucky to have Sue as our cousin. She was warm, kind, and compassionate. Sue was always interested in other people. She was always there for us with an encouraging word, a phone call, or a note. She was great fun, too, with a a wonderful sense of humor. I cherish the memories of sitting in her sunnroom on a summer evening, chatting on the phone, hunting for eggs at Easter dinner, and watching the Fourth parade with her and the rest of the family. She made the world a better place and will be truly missed.
