Anne Allen Obituary

Anne (Penny) Allen

January 10, 1948 - October 26, 2025

Lexington, Kentucky - Anne (Penny) Douglas Allen of Lexington passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 26, 2025. She was born on January 10, 1948, in Winchester, Kentucky, and was the daughter of the late James Bradley Allen and Emory Dale Inman Allen of Winchester. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Donna Allen Miller and Jane Allen DeVan.

She is survived by Rugeley Pierson DeVan IV; Ashley Allen DeVan (Robert Schwalje); Rugeley Pierson DeVan V; Nancy Allen Turner (Fielding); Anne Allen Gabbard (DJ); John Allen (Janis); Henry Allen Turner; Zackary Allen (Jordan); Andrew Allen (Emilee); and Justin Allen.

She graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1970, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. She then moved to Washington, D.C., and worked for Congressman Wayne Hays for three to four years. She later returned to Lexington and took a position writing grants at the University of Kentucky before taking early retirement.

Penny was an avid foxhunter. She spent her childhood and most of her adult life foxhunting with the Iroquois Hunt as well as Long Run Hounds. She shared her extensive knowledge of hunting and horses, teaching many young foxhunters-as well as adults-the proper protocol of the sport. For many years, she rode her two favorite horses, Possum and Scally Wag, in the annual Iroquois Horse Show and Hunter Pace.

After she gave up riding, she took up golf, which became a lifelong passion. She was a member of Idle Hour Country Club, where she honed her skills and served on the Greens Committee. She played frequently, organized golf trips, and encouraged new members. As a former club champion, she was always ready to offer advice and help whenever she could.

In addition to Idle Hour Country Club, she was also a member of The Keeneland Club. She enjoyed going to the races with her good friends and family.

Penny enjoyed life to the fullest and will be deeply missed.

Her family would like to thank Cindy Short, Christine Asante, Connie Brown, Judy Strosnider, Bismark Sarpong, and Comfort Akakpo for their wonderful care.

On Friday, November 7, at 1:00 p.m., there will be a graveside service for Penny at the Winchester Cemetery, 625 West Lexington Avenue.

A Celebration of Life will follow immediately at the Idle Hour Country Club, 1815 Richmond Road, Lexington, Kentucky.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to First Tee Pine Mountain, 114 Highway 190, Pineville, KY 40977, or to Central Kentucky Riding for Hope, P.O. Box 13155, Lexington, KY 40585. www.milwardfuneral.com
