Lexington, Kentucky - Barbara Fisher Nutini of Lexington, KY died peacefully on July 13, 2021 at age 93 in Naples, FL. She was born May 23, 1928, to the late Elizabeth Collins and Warren Rogers Fisher. She grew up in Carlisle, KY where her father was owner and editor of The Carlisle Mercury newspaper and in Lexington, KY. She attended elementary through high school at UK's University Training School in Lexington reaping the benefit of a modern, experimental, liberal arts education which helped to shape her many intellectual pursuits and love of language, poetry, history and fiction until the end of her life. She made many lifelong friends to whom she remained close. She attended college at The University of KY, majoring in journalism.
Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Teofilo "Teo" Nutini in 1984. The couple met in 1949 in Italy where Teo was born and raised. Barbara was studying in France at the time and had traveled to Florence on holiday. Theirs was a whirlwind romance; they met in March and were married in Florence in May. Although her family was skeptical at first, once they met Teo, they also fell in love with him. Barbara and Teo spent their early years in Brazil where they had their first child. In 1957, they moved to the USA eventually settling in Ashland, KY where they raised their three children. In 2000 Barbara moved back to Lexington for the remainder of her life, wintering in Naples, FL.
She will be remembered as a dear friend to many for her intelligence, warmth and kindness. She loved socializing, was an avid bridge and tennis player and a wonderful cook. She and Teo made a Northern Italian style lasagna (with homemade noodles!) every Christmas. This tradition has been carried on by her children. As a through-and-through Kentucky girl, Barbara cherished her Kentucky roots supporting the Nicholas County Historical Society in Carlisle and was a proud great great granddaughter of Samuel Rogers, a leader of the Restoration Movement. Barbara loved her family above everything.
In addition to her husband, Barbara was predeceased by her brother, Warren R. Fisher, Jr. in 2004 and sister-in-law, Katherine Fisher in 2006. She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Nutini of Danbury, CT, a son, Warren Nutini of New Orleans, LA, a daughter, Eleanor Preising (Kevin) of Media, PA, and nephew, John "Toby" Elder (Ann) of Las Vegas Nevada.
Arrangements regarding services will be announced at a later time.
