David Foster McAnelly

Liberty, Kentucky - David Foster McAnelly, of Liberty, beloved husband of Renee Weddle McAnelly, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2025. He was 89.
David was born on August 17, 1935, to the late David Alton and Adele Foster McAnelly in Casey County and had been a lifelong resident of Liberty, Kentucky. David graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 1961 and practiced law in his hometown for over 50 years, serving his community with unwavering honor and passion. He held several distinguished roles throughout his career, including Chief of Staff to Governor Wallace Wilkinson and Kentucky Administrative Law Judge, positions he fulfilled with the utmost integrity. He joined the Board of Directors of Casey County Bank in 1969 and served as Chairman from 1982 to 2023, a role he held with deep pride.
David was a respected member of both the Kentucky Bar Association and the American Bar Association. His many professional accomplishments included serving on the Board of Governors for the Kiwanis Club and on the Kentucky-Tennessee Valley Authority's Tombigbee Waterway Council. He was a Kentucky Colonel, an active member of both the Kiwanis and Masonic lodges, and a founding member of the Casey County Country Club. A devoted member of First Christian Church, David served as an Elder and gave generously of his time and resources to numerous charities, church organizations, and the people of Liberty, whom he dearly loved.
Above all, David was devoted to his faith and his family. He cherished his children and found his greatest joy in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His happiest moments were spent surrounded by family. He took immense pride in the legacy he and Renee built and in the achievements of their loved ones. As an avid golfer, David treasured his time on the course with friends. As a passionate Kentucky Wildcat fan, he regularly attended football and basketball games. He also loved the Cincinnati Reds and Keeneland Races, fondly recalling trips to the track with his father.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Renee Weddle McAnelly of Liberty; his daughters, Kimra McAnelly Brumby and her husband, Mark, and Karen Wesley and her husband, John, all of St. Petersburg, Florida; his son, David Craig McAnelly and his wife, Kate of Lexington, Kentucky; his grandchildren, Lindsay Woomer and her husband, Keith, Kallie Loebel and her husband, Jordan, Elizabeth Schapker and her husband, AJ and David Lewis McAnelly; and his great-grandchildren, John Quentin Woomer, Oliver Loebel, Wesley Loebel, Meredith Renee Schapker, Elizabeth Lynn Schapker and Blair Louise Schapker.
Funeral services will be 11:00AM Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at First Christian Church of Liberty. Visitation will be from 10:00AM to 11:00AM on Tuesday at the church. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery. A luncheon reception will immediately follow at First Christian Church.
Pallbearers will be David L. McAnelly, Mitch Phillips, Barry Rousey, Nick Scott, Brad Wesley, and Mark Wolford. Honorary pallbearers will be Steven Brown, Johnnie Dando, and Danny Jeffries.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Casey County Hospital and the many caregivers who showed David love and compassion in his final days.
