Nicholasville, Kentucky - Edward Martin Teater of Nicholasville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2021 at the age of 88. He was the son of the late Earl and Carrie Teater. Born in Lexington, Kentucky, Ed served in the Army Military Police before following his family's tradition of training of American Saddlebred horses. His high standards, skills and quality of horsemanship earned him the accolades of his peers, culminating with his induction into the 1997 Kentucky State Fair World's Championship Horse Show Hall of Fame and the United Professional Horseman's Tom Moore Hall of Fame in 2000. In 2014, he and his wife were awarded the Larry Bacon Lifetime Achievement award by the UPHA. Ed served on a multitude of industry boards, was the Vice President of the American Saddlebred Horse Association, and judged every major horse show across the country. He trained multiple World's Grand Champions at farms in Minnesota and Kentucky, stood top stallions at his breeding operation, and raised numerous World's Champions. Along with family members, he founded the auction company TSE/Tattersalls in 1986. The horse sales venue set world records for sales of show horses for over 20 years. Ed was a true Southern gentleman, loving husband, father, grandfather, and a friend to all in the horse industry. Ed is survived by his wife of 48 years Suzanne Traylor Teater; children, Edward 'Martin' Teater Jr. (Jeannette) of Nicholasville Kentucky, Mary David 'Dee' Teater of Lexington Kentucky, Whitney Clark Remley of Walton, Kentucky and Ryan Traylor Teater (Sarah) of Versailles, Kentucky; grandchildren Jason Scott Teater, Brandon Lyle Trimble (Megan), Cassidy Ann Teater, Bailey Clark Reynolds, Tristan Allen Remley, Paris Clark Remley and Lauren Elizabeth Teater; and great grandchildren Branson Robert Teater, Sawyer Patterson Moore, Beau Lyle Trimble and Katherine Kristin Trimble. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Earl 'Pete' Teater Jr. and Louis Duncan Teater. Visitation to be held Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home on Harrodsburg Road from 1-4 pm, with services beginning at 4 pm.
