Gypsy Grauert Obituary

Gypsy Dell Grauert, age 90, of Petaluma, California, passed peacefully on September 18, 2025.

Born on July 4, 1935, in Lexington, Kentucky, Gypsy was raised with a deep love of music and faith that would guide her throughout her life. As a young woman, she displayed remarkable courage and determination when she packed up her car and drove across the country from Lexington to Los Altos, CA, to work for a doctor and friend. Making that journey on her own was a true testament to her adventurous spirit, independence, and tenacity - qualities that defined her throughout her life.

A gifted violinist, Gypsy shared her talents with the Lexington Philharmonic, Marin Symphony and with The Harmoneers & Harmonettes, an esteemed community choir and performance group. Her faith was a constant source of strength, and she joyfully shared her music at Petaluma Valley Baptist Church, both in the choir and through her violin.

Gypsy is survived by her devoted husband, Peter Grauert; her beloved children Christie Grauert-Courville, Heidi Grauert, and Nicholas Grauert; her cherished grandchildren Alexis Palmisano, Taylor Courville, Zachary Courville, Marista Nolan, Tyler Grauert, and Ryan Grauert; her nephews Jerry Barnett and Jeff Barnett; and her precious great-grandchildren Skyler Palmisano and Scarlett Palmisano. She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas Milford Barnett and Leita Little Heart Barnett, and her brothers Thomas Barnett and Jerry Barnett.

A woman of grace, compassion, and creativity, Gypsy dedicated her life to serving others. She volunteered with Hospice of Petaluma, offering care and comfort with her gentle heart. She also found joy in, painting, cake decorating, and the beauty of nature. Her faith in Jesus was steadfast, and her kindness and generosity left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She was deeply devoted to her family, to nurturing youth through music, and to supporting the learning disabled community. Gypsy was a pillar of quiet strength, meeting life's challenges with resilience and a radiant smile.

Gypsy lived by the words she kept handwritten by her kitchen sink:

"Do everything you can, for every person you can, in every way that you can, every day that you can."

Those words reflected not only how she lived, but who she was - a woman whose love, music, and faith enriched countless lives.
