James Gulley Obituary

GULLEY, James Thomas, 80, Hixson, passed away at Memorial Hospital on July 3, 2005 of complications from Alzheimer's Disease. Mr. Gulley was born in Chattanooga, raised is Soddy-Daisy and Dunlap, TN, and Columbus, GA, and was a communicant of St. Jude's Catholic Church in Chattanooga. He was an 18 year veteran of the U.S. Army Paratroopers, and the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in WWII campaigns in North Africa, China, and several Pacific Islands. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and a loyal member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Prior to retirement in 2000, he was a long-haul truck and inter-city bus driver. He was also proud of his contributions as a welder and laborer at Solvay Process in Geddes, NY. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Gulley and his daughter, Jane Gulley Otero. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Marguerite T. Kennedy Gulley. He was the devoted, respected and loving father of his children: Lynn (Fred) Jolly, Nicholasville, KY, Francine Parsons, Birmingham, AL, Jim (Rose) Gulley, Penfield, NY. He had several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 am Wed. at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Chattanooga, with Father Robert Hoeffsteter officiating. Interment will be in Maplegrove Cemetery in Nicholasville, KY. Family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Tues. at the funeral home, where a prayer service will be given at 7:30 pm. While the Gulley family appreciates all remembrances and offers of support, we especially appreciate contributions to local Alzheimer's research, outreach and fundraising agencies. I hold wonderful memories of Jim and Marg involved in Camillus Democratic politics and all the assistance that they gave to me in my campaigns. My deepest sympathy at the passing of Jim.
