Paducah, Kentucky - James William Owens, 84, of Paducah passed away December 29, 2020 at Mills Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Mayfield after 4-months of declining health there.
Born April 18, 1936 in Hazard, to Jason N. and Loretta Hale Owens, he loved UK basketball, steak, politics, collecting political memorabilia, making people laugh, and fighting for the little guy.
At Western Kentucky University he excelled in debate. He received an MBA and law degree from UK. He served as Army Captain in West Germany 1963-65, then touristed almost every country in Europe.
He worked for The Legislative Research Commission in Frankfort, before moving to Paducah for a 50-year law career, holding his clients and the unions many of them belonged to (and which he represented) in high esteem.
He was preceded in death by sisters Frances Mae Owens Foreman of The Plains, VA, and Marcia Marie Owens Lynch of Traverse City, MI, who passed away February 2, 2021 https://www.reynolds-jonkhoff.com/obituaries/Marcia-Lynch-2/#!/Obituary His last trip out of West Kentucky was with Marcia to his 55th Hazard High School Reunion in 2019.
He is survived by wife Lynn Wallace Owens; first wife Lynne Clark Owens, both of Paducah; sons Jason Owens (Kelley Tilmon) of Wooster, OH and Patrick Owens of Louisville; stepsons Trey Griffin of Paducah and Tyler Griffin (Andrea) of Bradenton, FL; grandchildren Addison, Olivia, Gabe, Sutton, Sarah and Stone Griffin.
