Paintsville, Kentucky - Jennings Maynard, age 93 of Paintsville, Kentucky passed away Thursday, June 24, 2021 at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville. Born September 19, 1927 in Delbarton, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Harrison H. Maynard and Emma (Curry) Maynard. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by twelve siblings.
Jennings is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth Sparks Maynard; one son, David Maynard of Key West, Florida; two daughters: Lorraine Maynard Gibbs and husband, Bill of Lexington, Kentucky, and Jennifer Maynard of Lexington, Kentucky; six grandchildren: Sarah Gibbs (Jimmy Lavin), Greg Gibbs (Dalia), Stephanie Maynard, Martha Maynard Loveland (Jason), Ernie Maynard (Bethany Hayes), Emily Maynard Johnson (Tyler); ten great grandchildren; and one brother.
Jennings was retired from the Island Creek Coal Company where he worked as Manager of Maintenance and Construction. He was a member of the O'Brien Masonic Lodge #101 of Williamson, West Virginia where he was a 32nd Degree Mason. He also obtained the prestigious Eagle Scout rank. Jennings was a proud veteran of the United States Navy.
Funeral services will be held 11:00am Monday, June 28, 2021 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Sparks Cemetery at Yellow Creek, Kentucky. Paul Wayne Browning will officiate. Military Honors will be conducted by the Big Sandy Chapter 18 DAV of Auxier, Kentucky. Friends may visit at the Phelps & Son Funeral Home on Sunday from 4:00-9:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Van Lear Freewill Baptist Church by contacting the Phelps & Son Funeral Home @ (606)789-8989. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home.
