Dr. John Edwin Boso
June 22, 1943 - November 1, 2021
Lexington, Kentucky - A gentle, humble gardener and physician has passed. Born June 22, 1943, in Abilene, Texas, John Edwin Boso grew up in Huntington, West Virginia, the third child of Dr. Clarence "Tim" and Clara Tebay Boso. In the 1960's John attended West Virginia University and WVU Medical School, completed his Internship at Akron (OH) City Hospital, and his Residency at The University of Virginia. Moving his young family to Lexington in 1972, he joined Bluegrass Anesthesia. With loyal and dedicated partners he provided anesthesiology services at Good Samaritan Hospital and Shriners Hospitals for Children Medical Center for nearly thirty years. He capped his career as Medical Director of Medical Heights Surgery Center. A member of many local, state, and national medical organizations including the International Anesthesia Research Society, Dr. Boso was known for his caring bedside manner and calm, steady demeanor. Another centerpiece of John's life was his diligent study and prayerful practice of Christianity. Raised in the church with his brother Jim (Betty) and sister Judy (Stan Wagy), he then with his wife Marshall Ann raised their two sons, Mike (Kari Pincus) and Bill (Michelle), at Maxwell Street Presbyterian Church in the 1970s and '80s. After she passed, he and wife Mary Ann raised their daughter Rebecca (Dennis Craig) at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in the 1990s, always living, teaching, and growing in faith, hope, and love. Gardening was John's personal passion. Whether cultivating planned flower gardens, planting the family Christmas tree every January, maintaining his prized goldfish and waterlily pond complete with a babbling brook, or growing the best corn and tomatoes anyone has ever tasted, sharing his love of the outdoors with his friends and family (including ten nieces and nephews and eight grandchildren) contented his quiet nature and completed a well-balanced life. After a nine-year burden with Parkinson's Disease, which he bore with the same patience and dignity that defined his life, John died with his family at his side, comfortably in peace at home in the steadfast care of his beloved wife of thirty-three years, Mary Ann. Funeral service will be 11:00 am Friday at St. Luke United Methodist Church, 2351 Alumni Drive, Lexington, KY 40517 with Brian Ebel officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Grass Memorial Gardens in Nicholasville, KY with Bob Ockerman officiating. Visitation will be 9am till the service time Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts of remembrance be sent to St. Luke's United Methodist Church and/or Bluegrass Hospice Care. Kerr Brothers-Harrodsburg Rd. is handling the arrangements.
