Judith BABBAGE Obituary

BABBAGE Judith Keen Johnson, daughter of the late Governor Keen Johnson and Mrs. Eunice Johnson, died Oct 16, 2010. She was 83 years old. Born in Richmond, KY, she attended Eastern Kentucky Training School in Richmond, Frankfort High School and graduated with High Distinction from Ward-Belmont Preparatory School in Nashville, TN. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Kentucky. Mrs. Babbage was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Chi Omega Sorority, Alpha Lambda Delta and Theta Sigma Phi. She was a UK Fellow, a member of the UK Alumni Association and the UK Journalism Alumni Board. She served on the American Heart Association Board, as a Gray Lady at the Veterans Hospital, as a member of the Commission on Higher Education under Governor Edward Breathitt, as a volunteer at Christ Church Apartments and as a charter member of Lexington's Christian Unity Task Force. An active member of Central Christian Church, Mrs. Babbage served as a deacon, an Elder and member of the Administrative Board. She has served the Christian Women's Fellowship Board in many capacities, including president. She was active in the Worship Department, Evangelism Department and other areas of the church. She was a member of Central's first Stephen minister class and served as a lay minister. Mrs. Babbage was a sustaining member of the Lexington Junior League and had served on both the Junior League and the Junior League Horse Show boards. She was a member of the Lexington Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Lexington Philharmonic Guild and a charter member of the Greater Lexington Democratic Women's Club. She had been employed by the Lexington Herald-Leader and by Central Christian Church. Survivors are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Robert A. Babbage and Laura S. Babbage, and Dr. Keen Johnson Babbage; three grandchildren, Robert A. Babbage III, Julia Lauren Babbage and Brian Keen Babbage, all of Lexington; and four nieces, Mrs. Barbara Stanley, Cincinnati, OH; Mrs. Beverly Sharp, Fort Thomas, KY; Mrs. Joan Burke, Lawrenceburg, KY and Mrs. Peggy Hevey, Belle Glade, FL. A memorial service will be 11am Tue, Oct 18 at Central Christian Church in Lexington with Dr. Michael W. Mooty officiating. Visitation will follow the service in the Fellowship Hall of the church. Burial will be at the Richmond Cemetery, Richmond, KY at 2:30pm.
