I only had the opportunity to meet Ben once on a hot summer day in about 1960

when he and his family stopped by to visit our family in Elma, NY. My Dad,

Roy Warren Weise, was delighted to see him; it was the first time they'd gotten

together since Ben had stood at Dad's wedding as Dad's best man shortly after

the war.

The two of them met at the University of Cinncinati where they were in the

same electrical engineering courses and Dad helped Ben learn English. Both

were subsequently in the US Army Officers' Candidate School and then in the

signal corps. Ironically, they both married a woman named Jean.

Dad is not an emotional man, but it took him a good 10 minutes to compose

himself on hearing that Ben had passed. He clearly has vivid memories of

experiences they shared some 70 odd years ago.

Dad sends his most heartfelt condolences to Horvay family. He asks that you

celebrate memories of Ben's warmth and integrity, as he will.

Ben and Jean always cared so much for family and always there to offer a helping hand. My sons and grandchildren were lucky to have them in their lives.

Ben and Jean were neighbors in Louisville on Indian Ridge Rd. They were so gracious and especially kind to our daughter. We enjoyed hearing from them each Christmas after they left Louisville. Ben was so dignified and gentlemanly--but also has an ever-present twinkle in his eyes! He will be missed.

My dear Uncle Ben was the last of the Greatest Generation in my family as well as my last Hungarian-speaking relative in the U.S. We had many wonderful conversations about family history. He helped me understand our family's origins and I am lucky he chose Lexington as his final retirement home. He and his late wife Jean were so kind, so curious and knowledgeable about many things, and I was always happy in their good company. Ben, like Jean, will be greatly missed.
