Marcella Chapman Obituary

Marcella Hill Chapman, 79, of 4400 Cummins Ferry Road, Woodford County, died Sunday, November 17, at her home. Born in Fayette County, she was a daughter of the late George D. and Margaret Trimble Hill, and was a long time devoted member of the Clover Bottom Baptist Church. She had attended Asbury College in Wilmore, and was an avid historian. Mrs. Chapman was well known for her knowledge of families and historical relevance of the southern end of Woodford County. In her church activity, she was a former Sunday School teacher, had been active in the Women's Missionary Union, was a member of the Mayme Prather Sunday School Class, and had assisted with authoring the history of the Clover Bottom Baptist Church. She was a former correspondent for the Woodford Sun newspaper in Versailles, and had been an active 4-H leader. For over 60 years, she was the loving wife of Bill Chapman of Woodford County, and the devoted mother of four children, a daughter, Hope Chapman Elliott of Jessamine County, and three sons, Spurgeon Chapman, Holly Chapman, and Howard Townsend Chapman all of Woodford County. Also surviving are her five grandchildren, J. W. Elliott, Kendall Elliott, Elizabeth P. Chapman, Clara Madison Chapman, Christopher L. Hayes, and two brothers, Wilbur Hill of Woodford County, and Robert Hill of Connecticut. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 19, at the Clover Bottom Baptist Church with Rev. Don Reed and Rev. DeWayne Brewer officiating. Interment will follow at the Rose Crest Cemetery, Versailles. Pallbearers will be Mark Hill, John Hill, J.W. Elliott, Danny Jackson, Danny Gene Jackson, and Harry Hartley. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Mayme Prather Sunday School Class. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. today (Monday) at the Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home, Versailles. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or to St. Joseph Hospital Home Health Care.
