Margaret BOHAN Obituary

BOHAN Margaret Julia "Maggie" Wharton, died Sun, July 8, 2012 at St Joseph Hospital after a long illness. She is survived by her husband of thirty-four years, Robert Bohan. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald J. Hillenmeyer. She was born on May 30, 1924 in Lexington, the daughter of the late John C. and Margaret Haydon Wharton and remained a life long resident. She was preceded in death by brothers, John C. Wharton Jr. and Charles H. Wharton. She is survived by a sister, Mary "Tissie" Mathews of Gurnee, IL. She was a loving mother and grandmother and leaves four children and two stepchildren, Don Hillenmeyer (Lucia), John Hillenmeyer (Gale), David Hillenmeyer (Jan), Janie Cowgill (Larry), Mary Bohan Houlihan (Robert), Patrick L. Bohan. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Hillie Hillenmeyer (Paige), Geoff Hillenmeyer (Kristie), Christopher Hillenmeyer (Jennifer), Phillip Hillenmeyer, Bobby Cowgill (Julia), David Hillenmeyer (Janice), Maggie Cowgill, Erik Hillenmeyer, Joseph Hillenmeyer; and five step-grandchildren, Katie Houlihan Smith (Andrew), Allison Houlihan Turner (Andy), Bobby Houlihan (Lai-Chung), Matthew P. Bohan (Laurie), Laura Simpson (David), Madeline Carter (Billy). Other surviving family members include 13 great - grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Margaret attended Henry Clay High School and graduated from Cardome Academy in Georgetown, KY. She attended the University of Kentucky where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, and Business Manager of the Kentucky Kernel. In 1945 she married Donald Joseph Hillenmeyer. Together they lovingly raised their four children. Following his death she was married in 1978 to Robert E. Bohan. They enjoyed travel, golf and a wide circle of friends and family. Robert remained a devoted and attentive husband during her long illness and was with her often in her final days. She is a member of the Cathedral parish of Christ the King and a former member of the Lexington Jr. League, and the Lexington Cotillion Club. She was employed for many years at Embry's of Lexington and volunteer for many years with the St. Joseph Hospital's Women's auxiliary. The family would like to thank the staff of The Breckinridge, The Tanbark Healthcare Center, St. Joseph Hospital 3-B, and Hospice of the Bluegrass for their exceptional care and attention. Visitation will be 5-8pm Tue at Milward-Broadway. Funeral mass will be 12pm Wed at Christ the King Cathedral and burial service at Calvary Cemetery. Remembrances can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation or the Hospice of the Blue Grass. www.milwardfuneral.com
