Margaret MACK Obituary

MACK Margaret Elizabeth Estes, died at Central Baptist Hospital on March 29, 2011 after a lengthy illness. She was born on Feb 24, 1923 in Deckard, TN, daughter of Virginia Patience Rice Estes and John W. Estes. She had been married to her beloved, James Clarke Mack for 66 years. She graduated from Dickson High School and graduated in three years from Tennessee Technological University in Home Economics. She worked her way though college by reading to a blind student. She and Clarke made homes in La Crosse, WI; Charlestown, IN; Louisville, KY; and Lexington, KY. In Louisville, she was very active in St. Paul United Methodist Church and its choir. In Lexington, she was an active member of First United Methodist Church and their choir. She was honored for her church work in 2007 when she was given a First United Methodist Church Angel Award. After her move to Lexington in 1964, her love for and talent for painting grew. She was a founding member of the Lexington Art League, and her friends lovingly testify how she helped them grow as artists because of her support. She also was a founding member of Artists Attic where she had a studio for many years. She had numerous art shows in oil paintings and collage. But mostly, she loved spending time with her children and her grandchildren who all benefitted by her unconditional love. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her four children, Linda Mack Howe (Dick), Gingy Mack Reid, James Clarke Mack II, MD (Barbara), and Scott Mack, MD (Debbie). She was beloved by her seven grandchildren, Beth (Scott Richardson) and Kathy (John Lilly) Howe of California, Daniel (Erica) and David Mack of Lexington, and Holly (Brent) Gardner, Heather and Scott Mack of California. She also cherished her six great grandchildren, Andrew, Kate, Emily Richardson, Sam Lilly, Carter Mack, and Dean Gardner. The family wishes to thank Dr. Brenda Coleman and other Central Internal Medicine Physicians, and all the staff of Central Baptist Hospital who have given her outstanding medical care. Funeral services will be held Fri at 2pm at First United Methodist. Visitation will be held Thu from 5-8pm at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home on Main Street. Memorials are requested to First United Methodist Church, 200 West High Street Lexington, KY 40507.

Jimmy and Scott,

I am sorry about your mom's passing. I know you'll miss her very much!
My mom, Betty, passed away last year.

As an adult, I am interested to read about your mom's involvement in the art scene in Lexington. I guess when I was growing up on Idle Hour Dr., I wasn't attuned to that. Art has been a light in my life since I was very young. So thankful now for the contributions your mom made to that community.

My best to you both and your family.

To my Kentucky Mack family:
I am so sorry to hear that Aunt Margaret has passed. Logically I know she's in a better place and having a blast with my parents but she will be missed by so many.
Love to you all from the Southern Macks.

Dear Mack Family,
I am so sorry for the loss of your wonderful wife and mother. I loved her, and so did everyone in our Morrison Family. Her talent and encouragement to me meant a great deal. Mr. Mack, we love you very much. We are in the middle of Leah's bat mitzvah preparations. We have several folks coming in Saturday. Daddy is coming, and he gets worn out on the plane ride. We are sending some Flowers to Mrs. Mack. She painted them like a master. I grieve and pray for your family. I love you all. Margo Jacobs
