Margaret Melville Obituary

88, died on January 3, 2018. She was born in Florence, Alabama to the late Edward Carroll Lisby and Nina Olivette Kimbrel Lisby on August 29, 1929. After attending nursing school at Vanderbilt University, she graduated from Florence State Teachers College while her husband fought in the Korean War. She worked as a social worker in Alachua County Florida while her husband attended graduate school at the University of Florida. She went on to earn a masters degree from Monmouth College in New Jersey. She was a teacher for 25 years, the majority of which she taught middle school science in Colts Neck, New Jersey. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Robert Melville in 2015. They met on a blind date at Vanderbilt and married on a Friday the 13th. Their "good luck" lasted 65 years. She was also preceded in death by her brother Carroll Edward Lisby, his wife Mary, and their son Jeffrey. Margaret and Bob moved to Lexington, KY to be closer to family. Her "retirement" included being actively involved in Hartland Hills Homeowners Association, Book Clubs, the League of Women Voters, and local politics. She was duly commissioned an Admiral of the Commonwealth of Kentucky for her" guardianship of the natural resources and environmental wealth of KY." Margaret and Bob also traveled extensively enough to become members of the 100 Club for having visited at least 100 countries. She is survived by son Richard (Joy) Melville and daughter Jean Anne (David) Vickery. Grandchildren are John (Bethany) Vickery, Joseph (Amy) Vickery, Austin Melville, and Amber (Ryan) Allen. Great grandchildren are Claire and Jack Vickery, Aiden and Abigail Vickery, Lillian, Lenox, Eloise, and Ireland Allen. Other family members include her "best friend" Marsha Melville, Dudley Gravitt, niece Nina Beth Reeves and nephew Greg (Rosemary) Lisby and their children and grandchildren. Margaret's family would like to extend a special thank you to April Yeary and her staff at Parker Home Health Care for the kindness and care they showered on her. They all made sure the last few years of her life were filled with love and joy on a daily basis. Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Friday at Milward - Southland with visitation at 12:00 P.M. Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery. View and sign the guestbook at www.milwardfuneral.com. She was a blessing to us and we will cherish our memories of her.
