Martha Mooney

1939 - 2025

Martha Marr Mooney, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on November 14, 2025, surrounded by family. She was twelve days from her 86th birthday. She was born in Lexington, Kentucky, on November 26, 1939, the second daughter of John Wesley Marr and Dillard Hazelrigg Marr.

She grew up and spent the majority of her life on Clarkland Farm. She graduated from U-High in 1957 and Transylvania University in 1962. She was proud to be the first family member to graduate from college and was elected Crimson Beauty her senior year. A woman of quiet strength and deep religious faith, she was a dedicated member of Christ Church Cathedral. She managed the bookstore, hosted Bible study, and regularly attended the healing service.

Martha was a happily devoted wife to Charles (Chuck) Sinclair Mooney for a fun-filled 53 years. They enjoyed traveling; Martha loved all sunny beaches, but her favorite places to go were Litchfield, SC and Carlsbad, CA. She also enjoyed playing tennis and golf with Chuck and some very special friends.

Beyond being a blessing to all whose lives she touched, she was the best mother anyone could have. She is survived by two sons, Stephen (Christine) and Hubert (Katie), and four grandchildren: Charlie, Jack, Molly, and Millie. She was preceded in death by her half-sister Marnie (Richard) Bush, and sister Nancy (Fred) Mitchell. She is survived by her sister, Dill Johnson.

Martha will be remembered for her southern grace, generosity, and kindness. The family invites you to attend her celebration of life at Idle Hour Country Club on November 25, 2025, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Baby Health.
