Mitchell Thompson

THOMPSON Mitchell, 60, husband of Mary Burdette Thompson, died Wed, Jan 8, 2014 at his residence. Born Dec 22, 1953 in Lebanon, KY, he was the son of Mary George Thompson and the late Frank Thompson, Sr. Mitchell was a U.S. postal carrier, and a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he was a longtime volunteer and Sunday school teacher. He was an avid UK fan and a sports enthusiast. Survivors other than his wife and mother include two children: Slade and Grace Thompson; three siblings, Frank (Aletia) Thompson, Jr., Tim (Barbara) Thompson, and Ann-Coury Mulloy; a sister-in-law, Emma Thompson; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Stuart Thompson; and a sister-in-law, Harriet Thompson. The family extends expressions of appreciation to his church family, his relatives, co-workers, and patrons of his mail route. Funeral services will be held 11am Sat at Calvary Baptist Church, 150 E. High Street, Lexington, KY 40507 by Dr. Robert Baker. Burial will follow in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 4-8pm Fri and 10am Sat until the service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Calvary Baptist Church or St. Augustine School, 236 S. Spalding Ave., Lebanon, KY 40033.
