Sara Gilbert Obituary

HAZARD - Sara Boggs Gilbert, 94, died Thurs., March 10, 2005, at the Hazard Nursing Home. Mrs. Gilbert was the daughter of the late Dr. James Preston and Sarah Eversole Boggs and was born in New Mexico territory. She was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers, including the late Dr. Eli C. Boggs. She was the widow of the late John Fitzhugh Gilbert Sr. She was a long-time teacher in Hazard City Schools, a volunteer at the Hazard Medical Center, and the last surviving charter member of the local DAR. Mrs. Gilbert is survived by one son, Dr. John F. Gilbert Jr., and a daughter, Sarah Gilbert Gasper, of Hazard. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Julia Gilbert Fifer of New Albany, IN; James Preston Gilbert, South Lyon, MI, Theodore Howard Gasper III, of Greenville, NC and Laura Trigg Gilbert of London, England. Two great grandchildren also survive. Visitation will be at Maggard Funeral Home in Hazard on Sat., at noon, followed by a memorial service at 1 pm. The family requests that memorials be given to Scholarship funds at the Hazard City Schools or Hazard Community and Technical College, or to the charity of your choice. Guestbook at Legacy.com

Mrs. Gilbert was a great teacher

she taught me math in the 8th grade.

Sorry to hear of her passing. Her

son was my late gradfather's phy

sician ( charlie Johnson).
