Shelby Shanklin Obituary

SHANKLIN Shelby Jr, 87 died on March 20, 2008 at the Hospice Center, St. Joseph's Hospital. He was a resident of Lexington, KY, born Dec 31, 1920 in Clearwater, FL, to the late Eleanor Craig DeRemer and Shelby Shanklin, Sr. He was a graduate of Darlington School, Rome, GA, Class of 1938, and the University of Kentucky, Class of 1942. He served as Captain in the US Army Air Force during WW2 under command of General Bedell Smith. He worked as a realtor in Lexington for many years with Richard Clinkenbeard and later founded Clark and Shanklin Realty with partner, Howard Clark. He was a past member of the Lexington Rotary Club, the Idle Hour Country Club, the Polo Club, Keeneland Club and he also served as a past President of the Lexington Board of Realtors. He devoted time to the International Book Club, the Fayette County Urban Housing Board, and Walnut Hill Church. He was well known, loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife Harriet; daughter, Alice S. Cowley, Louisville, KY; sons, Harrison Craig Shanklin, Arlington, VA, and David S. Shanklin, (Gladys), Richmond, VA; and grandchildren, Shelby, Alice, Eleanor, Maria, Patty and Jack; sister, Barbara Cornwell; brother, Jack Shanklin (Betty), both of Fort Myers, FL. A memorial service will be held at Walnut Hill Church on Mon, March 24th at 2pm. The W. R. Milward Mortuary-Broadway is in charge of arrangements. Dear Harriet, I was sad to read of Shelby's passing this morning. You both have always been so kind and thoughtful of me. Please know I will be remembering you in my prayers. What a special time this is as we are reminded of Jesus promise that we will be together again. The Lord is Risen and so shall we.
