Sophie Elizabeth Godwin SAWYER

SAWYER Sophie Elizabeth Godwin, beloved daughter of Sophie Martin Wood and Dr. Herman Allen Godwin, Jr., died peacefully on Sep 22, 2011 in Lafayette, LA. Born in Boston, MA on Aug 21, 1963, Beth moved to Charlotte with her family in 1976. She attended Charlotte Latin School and Charlotte Country Day School, before graduating from The University of the South and then earning her MBA from Duke University's Fuqua School of Business. She worked for American Airlines in Dallas; Bank of America in both Atlanta and Houston; and was CFO of Pre-Stress Concrete in Lexington, KY. She is survived by her daughters, Lindsey Myers and Lauren Elizabeth; her parents; step-parents Edgar Wood and Renee Godwin; her sister, Connie McNichols and her husband, John, of Hingham, MA; her two brothers, Martin Godwin and his wife, Amy, of Charlotte, NC and Myers Godwin and his wife, Juno, of Albuquerque, NM; her paternal grandmother, Lois Godwin of Dunn, NC; her step-sister and step-brothers, Eddie and Becky Wood of Cary, NC, Shelley and Rich Callahan of Charlotte, NC, David and Jana Collins of Wilmington, NC, and John Collins of Hillsborough, NC. In addition, Beth is survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. There will be a service honoring her life at 2 o'clock in the afternoon on Thu, Sep 29, 2011 at Christ Episcopal Church in Charlotte. The family will receive guests in The Blue Room at Christ Episcopal immediately following the service. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Harry and Bryant Company in Charlotte. The Godwin and Wood families would like to thank Dr. and Mrs. Don Sawyer, Andy Sawyer and Sarah Charles Wright for their love and support over the years.
