Stuart was an incredibly influential mentor to me when I lived in Charleston. I helped him periodically as captain of the old Lyman-Morse wooden flush deck "labor of love" cruiser that he bought with John Arwood. When we finally delivered the boat back to New Jersey to Arwood, they both rode with me throughout that delivery and I received their invaluable tag team mentoring each day. At the time I had been a US Navy officer for several years and then completed my initial obligation. The two of them encouraged me to return to my passion, and the result of their mentoring was me returning to the US Navy and completing a 28 year career, finishing as Commodore and Captain. I am forever grateful for his guidance and steering my life at that critical crossroads for me.

Stuart was a good friend. He was always there for me in my hours of need, and he made everything a little lighter. I loved sharing and laughing with him about the financial markets and many shared experiences. I remember what an incredibly good sport he always was and his uncanny ability to laugh at himself. To say that Stuart could be the life of the party was the understatement. He was also very accomplished and intelligent. People gravitated to him and willingly worked happily for him. There is no one I ever met who had such a joie de vivre!! I will miss him and his laughter but know that he has an entire chorus of angels rolling with laughter in heaven right now.
