When our son was placed with us for adoption at the age of 18 months, he had a diagnosis of 'shaken baby syndrome.' Dr. Pinkstaff was so helpful to us, not only as a physician but as someone with a great deal of compassion, experience and wisdom. Also, he always had such a pleasant demeanor and he was so good with our son! He was an exceptional doctor ~ so gifted! I am so sorry for your loss!

Mrs. Pinkstaff, John and family,

Dr. Tom was my and my sister's pediatrician from the time we were young children and when we both had children, he was their pediatrician. My daughter, who is almost 19, was 4 when Dr. Tom retired. We stood in his exam room and cried. He was without exception one of the best people I have ever had the privilege of knowing. I can't imagine a world without Dr. Tom in it, though I'm sure he was greeted with great joy in Heaven. I did not know of his passing until today.
I am so sorry for your and all of our loss, but we are better people for having known and loved him.
With great sympathy,
Nancy Hayes Kirk

Dr. Pinkstaff gave me stitches under my eye from a dog bite when I was four years old (I am now 40) in Sikeston, MO. I remember him telling me I was "brave" (I had to ask my mother what that meant) and gave me a quarter for being so still. I remember this moment well and really thought the world of him. What a great doctor. My condolences to his family.

My daughter and I loved Dr. Pinkstaff. He was my daughters pediatrician from the time she was born in 1980, until she was 17. I never went there for an appointment that Dr. Pinkstaff didn't come skipping into the room, or singing, and he always had a big smile on his face. He was genuine. I feel so blessed to have had him as my daughters pediatrician for all those years.

Dr. Pinkstaff was our daughter's pediatrician in Sikeston, Missouri. I remember how loving and kind he was every time we would bring her in for an appointment. It seems like only yesterday when he told us he was moving to Lexington, Ky. We were so sad but we knew that the children of Lexington was getting a wonderful pediatrician. We have thought about Dr. Pinkstaff many times thru the years. We were so sad to hear of his passing. He was a wonderful person and a very loving pediatrician to all his kids that saw him. To his family we want to thank them for sharing him with his patients. We are truly sorry for your loss.

What a blessing it was for me to spend one short hour with this remarkable man. He was such a delight that the guys in our production truck wanted to meet him after the broadcast. He was warm and charming, like a cross between Mr. Rogers and Santa Claus. His natural ease with people really shined in a room of strangers. How sorry I am for your loss but feel blessed to have had one hour to sit by his side.

Our daughter has already signed the guest book, but Wanda and I would like to add our condolences. As parents of three young children in Lexington, Dr. Pinkstaff was our "security blanket." Later, when we moved to Louisville, Dr. Pinkstaff even saw the kids at his clinic whenever they needed him. Ironically, we learned of his death when our oldest daughter tried to contact him for advice in her current pregnancy regarding vacininations and autism. We mourn his passing. Sincerely, Anthony & Wanda Lavely

To the Pinkstaff family:

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I hope you can take some comfort in knowing how much joy your husband/father/grandfather brought into so many lives. Dr. Pinkstaff was my pediatrician when I lived in Lexington, Kentucky, though my siblings and I (current ages 25, 27, and 28) returned to see him even after we moved (and long after the age at which most people stop seeing a pediatrician!). It still makes me smile to remember how excited I was when Dr. Pinkstaff “magically” pulled a rubber bouncy ball out of my ear during each checkup. Thank you for sharing him with our family. We will remember him fondly.

I was stunned and deeply saddened to hear of Dr. Pinkstaff's passing. I had known of Dr. Pinkstaff for years, as he was the pediatrician for many of my friends growing up. But, I was recently blessed to have met this wonderful man and doctor in person when I took my foster child to see him at the Commission, and then at UK. He was always warm, compassionate and caring, and yes an AWESOME bedside manner. He put a smile on everyone's face. I just can't express in words what this man has meant to so many children in need. The community and the children will miss him so much. God Bless you and keep you. Our deepest sympathy to his family.

I was deeply saddened when I heard the news yesterday. Tom was a friend, a mentor, a father-figure and a colleague to me. I had the privilege to serve as a resident for him over 10 years ago. We shared the city of St. Louis as a theme to many of our conversations. Despite not seeing him for 7 years, we were reunited last May when I surprisingly ran into him at UK when I was there interviewing. When returning again in September, my only request was that I have lunch with Tom Pinkstaff. He never changed- always sincerely remembering everything about my personal life, my family, my career with unbelievable detail. His bedside manor was unmatched. The respectful way he treated patients, parents, students, residents and colleagues should be an example to all. I have never had the pleasure of meeting you, but Tom spoke highly of all of his family. I am deeply sorry for your loss. I will miss him dearly, but will never forget him.

My fond memories of Dr. Tom are of a magic pediatrician who would pull balls ffrom my children's ears. Their wide-eyed reaction was priceless. He would sing a song about their name as he entered the examine room. Dr. Tom would always ask "and how is mom?". When he came into Winn-Dixie he would always make you feel he had all the time in the world to visit. As the years would pass, he began talking of his grandchildren with such genuine love. You could tell, they brought him such joy. We will all miss this gem of a man. He was very special.

Dr. Tom was an amzaing man and gifted care giver. He was the first doctor my kids (now 25 and 28) ever had. My kids LOVED going to see him - even if they were sick. When my son was little he told me "when I grow up, I want to be a magician like Dr. Tom." How sweet he was. The first thing he asked when he walked through the examining room door was, "how is Mom doing." He made me feel so good about their care as I'm sure he did with all of the parents whose kids were his kids.

Dr. Tom - you will be missed! My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

Dr. Tom, how can i find the words to express our appreciation, grattitude, and love for you? He was the best Pediatrician for our foster/adoptive children, anyone could ever ask for. We started taking our little ones to him when they were less than a week old and they had the honor of being one of the first patients at the new pediatrics practice for foster children. Dr. Tom always had a smile on his face and a song in his heart. He gave our girls little nicknames we will never forget, and he truly cared about the children more than any doctor I have ever seen. He not only made sure the children were healthy and feeling well, but he always had the parents in mind too, and wanted to know how you were doing. He will never be forgotten and will be missed. We will tell our children when they are older what a wonderful man he was, and how he helped to care for them in their first days of life. We love you papaw Pinkstaff. -Amy, Suzanne, (Brenna, Melani & Dalia) God Bless all the family of Dr. Pinkstaff, thank you for sharing Dr. Tom with all of us.
