Vernon GAINES Obituary

GAINES Vernon Alvin, 89, widower of Sara Cornelia Augustus Gaines, died Wed, Jan 4, 2012. Born in Madisonville, LA, he was a son of the late Norman and Dola Mundy Gaines. A graduate of Grambling State University, he taught in New Orleans area schools before retiring. He was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church in Lexington, KY, a master carpenter, and a veteran of the US Navy during WW II. He is survived by his daughters, Cheryl Tolbert and Rhonda (Kenneth) Barnett, both of Lexington; sister, Esther Mae Laurant, Springfield, OH; grandchildren, Dereyck (Patrice) Moore, Kalia Barnett, Sara Barnett, Melia Barnett; great grandchild, Kennedy Moore; sister-in-law Theresa Gaines and Delia Gaines; and brother-in-law, John Augustus, Sr. A memorial service will be held 11am Mon at St. Luke United Methodist Church with a reception immediately following the service at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Luke United Methodist Church, and messages of condolence may be left at www.milwardfuneral.com
