David Staup Obituary

David Roger Staup December 23, 1942 – October 29, 2025 David Roger Staup, 82, passed away, Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at his home. Dave was born December 23, 1942 in Charlotte, Michigan the son of Edgar Pearl and Mary Lois (Wellman) Staup. Dave was raised in Michigan and then entered the Army, serving in Vietnam. Following his discharge he returned to Michigan where he met Joyce Nicholls. They were married on March 3, 1969 in Kankakee, Illinois. The couple resided in Michigan where they operated a Domino's Pizza until moving to Colorado in 1971. In Colorado, Dave worked as a cab driver before entering Law enforcement, eventually retiring from the Denver Sheriff's Office as Captain. They then moved to Oregon settling in Lebanon in 2004. Dave worked a few different jobs until starting Dajoys Kettle Korn and Concessions that he operated for several years. Dave then started Staups Remodeling and Contractors that he operated until his passing. Dave enjoyed playing cards, especially cribbage and poker. He is survived by his wife Joyce, children David Staup II, Neil Staup, Natasha Staup and Felisia Staup Pecue, sister Helen Osborn and 2 grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, November 6, at Huston-Jost Funeral Home.

Captain Staup was a good leader and someone who I enjoyed working with when I was a young deputy. I have fond memories about his wit, wisdom and love for our Department. We send his family our prayers and condolences.
