Roger Blaney Obituary
Roger Morris Blaney, 75, of Albany, Oregon, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2025 surrounded by his loved ones.
Born on September 16, 1950 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania to Charles and Florence Blaney, Roger spent his childhood years in the small town of Hopwood, Pennsylvania. His family later moved to Washington, D.C. where he attended Alice Deal Junior High School. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1968. His family then moved across the country to San Diego, California where he completed his apprenticeship as a Journeyman Plumber and joined the Pipefitters Union. In 1989 he moved to Eugene, Oregon where he worked for the City of Eugene until his retirement in 2012. He spent his final years in Albany, Oregon.
Roger always worked hard to provide for his family, although money was never important to him. He was well-known for his thoughtful generosity towards others, knack for fixing things, and willingness to help anyone in need. From broken washing machines to leaky sinks, Roger could fix it. Rarely did he allow anyone to pay him for his service. Despite saying how much he disliked school and reading books, everyone could see he was smart and worked well with his hands. He endeavored to improve every home he owned, doing all the work himself-often replacing windows, installing flooring, and lots and lots of painting.
Roger adored the outdoors and felt most at home in the woods while hunting or on a lake, fishing pole in hand. He planted countless vegetable gardens and fruit trees over the years, and also immensely enjoyed cooking. Additionally, he was blessed with an incredible memory for recalling names, places, and stories. Family and friends knew him to be a fantastic, animated storyteller with a rollicking laugh, bringing joy wherever he went. The stories were usually funny or unusual, but sometimes they were serious and meant to serve as pearls of wisdom or dire warnings to his listeners. He enjoyed visiting with people and could talk on and on-talking was truly one of his favorite pastimes!
In his final weeks of life, the courage Roger exhibited while facing his imminent death inspired all who interacted with him. He simply loved Jesus and happily shared his sheer excitement in going to heaven to be with his Lord and Savior. Roger readily conveyed his humble gratitude to the many people who expressed their loving, final farewells to a man who touched their lives and hearts deeply.
Roger was laid to rest at North Palestine Cemetery in Albany, Oregon. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Jinaye; three daughters, Julie, Sarah, and Melissa; four sons, Jeff, Justin, Nathan, and Andrew; and fourteen beloved grandchildren. He is also survived by his older brother and sister-in-law, Phillip and Sandra Blaney; two nephews; and one niece.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 10, 2025 at Calvary Corvallis. All who knew Roger are welcome to attend.
