Longtime Lebanon resident Tommy Dale Daniels passed away peacefully at his home, on September 18, 2025 at the age of 78. After a 2-year battle with cancer. He was born in Dumas Texas on May 2, 1947 to Ray and Jennie Daniels.
In 1956 with a truck full of their family belongings, 6 boys laughing and looking out of the windows of an old 1948 woodie station wagon, with water bags hanging on the rear mirrors (they looked like a Norman Rockwell picture), and a road map showing the way to Oregon. They would stop and camp, sometimes for a day or two, he would fish in small creeks hoping to catch trout and/or crawdads to cook over a fire. Still not knowing where they were headed, the boys thought they were living the good life. One night they stopped at Robinson's Court outside of Lebanon, there was a small cottage they stayed in. His dad bought an old farm house in Sodaville, for them to live in while they built their new house, but a fire forced them to move into another house until then. Tommy would take his fishing pole and go to his favorite spots along Oak Creek. He went to school in Sodaville and Lebanon, basketball and track were his favorite sports. Not having a car, he had to walk everywhere he wanted to go (school, fishing, camping, town) Must be where it started, he enjoyed walking at night sometimes up to 5 or more miles each time.
Tommy was 18 when he enlisted in the Navy during the Vietnam War, after boot camp, he was stationed in New Mexico for training, and Las Vegas for a year, before going to Guam where he worked on missile war heads. Returning home he bought a Chevy Impala, he and his brother Mike were able to get jobs working for Boeing Aircraft in Everett, WA. They became weekend travelers after many speeding tickets going back and forth to Lebanon, he decided to move back home. Where he got a job at Lebanon Lumber Willamette Industries where it didn't take long before he was promoted to lead foreman and then plant supervisor. Weyerhaeuser later purchased the mill, and in 2007 he retired after 37 years.
Tommy took LBCC weight training and other night classes they offered. He attended several Dale Carnegie courses where he received the highest award for achievement. He enjoyed taking his grandkids fishing at Foster and Clear Lake, making things out in his shop, trips to Reno to win the big ones, going and watching his grandkids play basketball, baseball, volleyball and a great-grandson's football games, every spring he liked to plant tomatoes and cucumbers to share with others
On a trip to visit a brother that lived in Arizona, Tommy and Linda got married in Las Vegas on August 8, 2002.
During his lifetime he impacted many people, no one was a stranger to him, he always had a positive attitude, a big heart, caring, and fun to be around, he was a big hugger, lots of kids called him grandpa.
