Allan Ruport Obituary
Allan "Al" Keith Ruport, 88, of Kasson, MN passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at home, where his family lovingly cared for him in his final days.
Allan, a loving husband, devoted father, and proud grandfather & great-grandfather, was born on October 27, 1936 in Mantorville, MN to Ronald and Mildred Ruport. He was raised and schooled in his hometown, and in 1957 began a 33-year career with IBM in Rochester, MN. He took a military leave from IBM in 1959 to enlist with the Army National Guard, where he served six months of active duty and seven years in the Army Reserves.
It was also in 1959 that Allan married his beloved Sylvia (Mienert) at Grace Lutheran Church in Dodge Center. Their loving partnership of 65 years was blessed with two children: daughter, Lynn, and son, Mark. The family initially made their home in Rochester before settling in Kasson in 1971, where Allan and Sylvia continued to live until the time of Allan's passing.
After retiring from IBM, Allan started a construction clean-up business and later maintained roads for Mantorville Township. He and Sylvia also enjoyed summers on Lake Kabetogama and winters in Arizona. A lover of the outdoors, Allan had numerous hobbies and interests, including boating, water skiing, snowmobiling, golfing, hunting, fishing, and watching the birds at his feeders. He also found joy in woodcarving and restoring old cars and snowmobiles. Allan cherished his weekend trips to Mabel to work in the shop alongside Mark, Brendan, and good friend, Tim Heintz – a commitment that few things could deter.
Above all, Allan treasured family and friends. He was always ready with advice or a helping hand, never more than a phone call away for any fix-it question from his children and grandchildren. His special bond with granddaughter, Brittany, whom he lovingly helped care for, and the joy he found in great-grandson, Naji, exemplified the depth of his love for family.
Allan is survived by his wife, Sylvia, and their children, Lynn (Scott) Okuno of Rochester and Mark (Tonia) of Mabel, MN; grandchildren, Briana (Hamza Salem) Okuno, Kelsey Okuno, Brendan Ruport, Madison Okuno; and great-grandson, Naji Salem.
He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Brittany Ruport; brothers, Jack (Jean) Ruport, Stan (Elaine) Ruport, and sister, DiAnne Miller, as well as other extended family members.
The Ruport family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Omar Abou Ezzeddine for his care and expertise over the years, as well as to the staff of Mayo Clinic Hospice for their compassionate care during Allan's final week at home.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Grace Lutheran Church, 404 Central Ave N in Dodge Center, MN with Pastor Elliott Malm officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to his service at the church and a meal will follow. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Mantorville, MN, with military honors provided by the Kasson American Legion Post 333.
