Janyce Marlene was born May 13, 1938, in Mason City, the daughter of Roscoe and Ruth (Smedley) Paul. She grew up nearby and graduated from Mason City High School in 1956. Not long after, she married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Ronald Behne, on February 10, 1957, at St. James Lutheran Church in Mason City. Together they built a life rooted in love, family, and faith. They raised four children–Carrie, Dwayne, Rani, and Michael–and made their home on the Behne family farm outside Nora Springs, where the sound of tractors and the rhythm of chores marked the days. Janyce wasn't just along for the ride-she worked right alongside Ron, sharing in the triumphs and challenges of farm life. Through good seasons and hard ones, the two remained hand in hand, grateful for what they built together.
Janyce had a gift for finding joy in both the simple and the special. She filled her home with the handiwork of her crochet hook and embroidery needle, each stitch a quiet act of love. Afghans and cross-stitched pieces became treasured family keepsakes, her way of leaving beauty in the everyday. She loved digging in her garden, reeling in fish on quiet afternoons, and gathering with friends from the North Iowa Wine Club for stories and laughter. Some of her happiest days were spent traveling with Ron, whether on far-off trips or Sunday drives close to home, each adventure made brighter by being together.
More than anything, Janyce's greatest joy was her family. She adored being "Grandma" and "Great-Grandma," cheering on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at their milestones, bragging on their accomplishments, and showering them with unconditional love. Her face lit up whenever they were near, and her pride in them was unmeasurable. They were, without question, the heart of her world.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Ron; her daughters, Carrie (Michael) Brodersen of Manly and Rani Brummer of Buffalo, MN; her son Michael (Michelle) Behne of Nora Springs; her grandchildren, Lindsey (Jeni) Brodersen, Matt (Ashley) Brodersen, Megan (Cody) Lafler, Mark (Courtney) Brodersen, Tyler (Aria) Behne, Spencer (Amber) Behne, Ryan (Jennifer) Brummer, Holly (Brian) Porter, and Ethan Brummer; her 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Phyllis Albert; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.
She was preceded in death by her son, Dwayne, in 1978; mother, Ruth Paul-Auck; father, Roscoe Paul; her brothers, Ronald (Patsy), Melvin, and Darrell Paul; son-in-law, Randy Brummer; brother-in-law, David Albert; and many beloved friends who no doubt welcomed her home.
