Theodore Fletcher "Ted" Dunnington

Theodore Fletcher Dunnington, 90, of Rochester, MN died Friday morning, April 18, 2025, at the Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield, MN. Ted was born on October 31, 1934 in Duluth, MN to Lewis and Helen Dunnington. In 1939, his family moved to Iowa City, Iowa where his father became pastor of the First Methodist Church. Ted graduated from Iowa City High in 1952 and went on to get his Masters Degree in Engineering at the University of Iowa in 1958. At the University of Iowa, Ted met and dated Sally Vana. They wed in 1956. Ted was also a proud member of Sigma Nu fraternity where he was elected Commander of his house. He joined the US Army reserve Corp after serving in ROTC and rose to the rank of Captain. Ted and Sally moved to Rochester in 1961 after he was hired by IBM in their Human Factors division. In Rochester, they raised their three children Ann, Sara and Joel. Ted worked at IBM until his retirement in 1993. He then taught as an Adjunct Professor of Project Management at St. Mary's College in Winona for another 17 years. Ted's first love was always his family but he also loved playing tennis (Iowa state doubles champ in high school). He was an enthusiastic fan of the Twins and the Vikings as well as the Iowa Hawkeyes football and basketball teams. Ted's love and humor touched all that he met. Ted is survived by his partner Sally, his children Ann, Joel and grandchildren Andrew and Kelsey Pittenger. Ted's daughter Sara predeceased him in 2020. Memorials are preferred to Camp Companion, please visit www.campcompanion.org A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 24, 2025 at 11:00am in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
