Roy Hilburn Obituary
Roy "Lil Roy" Hilburn, II, 53, of Georgetown, SC, passed away on October 14, 2025.
Born on December 16, 1971, he was the son of the late Roy Hilburn, I, and the late Frankie Joye Hilburn. Roy held a deep love for both of his parents, sharing an especially close bond with his mother.
Roy was an avid outdoorsman who loved to travel, especially on hunting trips with friends and adventures with his children. He began working at just 14 years old and carried that strong work ethic throughout his life. A proud graduate of Georgetown High School, Roy went on to become a skilled contractor who took great pride in the business he built.
A devoted fan of the South Carolina Gamecocks, Dale Earnhardt, and Hank Williams, Jr., Roy enjoyed life's simple pleasures, like riding with his son while listening to Aerosmith or reminiscing about his beloved hand-me-down Toyota Celica. Known for his intelligence, handiness, and generosity, Roy could tackle any task and was always there to lend a helping hand. He was unselfish and giving, taking care of everyone around him. His sense of humor, love of laughter, and playful nature made him a friend to all and a joy to be around. His family lovingly describes him as "hard to summarize," a testament to the countless lives he touched and the many ways he gave of himself.
Roy is survived by his children, Matthew McManus and Morgan McManus; his significant other, Devin McManus; his siblings, Sherry (Wayne) Poston and Kenny (Robin) Hilburn; and numerous nieces and nephews: Taylor Poston, Conner McAlister, Nicholas (Jordan) Poston, Levi Poston, Eva Joye, Benji (Brittany) Hilburn, Brooke (Tyler) Tanner, Kinsley Tanner, and Sulley Tanner. He also leaves behind his in-laws, Ron and Debbie Christmas; an honorary sister, Norma Rubin; his special Uncle Brookie; and beloved friends Bob Lumpkin, Mackey Altman, and Ryndie Williams.
A funeral service will be held at Graves Baptist Church on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at 3:00 P.M. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow immediately at Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
Operation Christmas Child was a cause close to Roy's heart. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to cover the cost of shipping shoeboxes for this mission. Checks may be made payable to Graves Station Baptist Church, 44 Vine Court, Georgetown, SC 29440.
The Maryville Chapel of Mayer-Ethridge Funeral Home is assisting the family.
