Willa Justine Matthews

Willa Justine McCutchen Matthews, 85, wife of the late Dexter Matthews, passed away peacefully Friday, November 28, 2025, at MUSC Health Florence Medical Center after a long illness.

Justine was born October 29, 1940, in Kingstree, SC, a daughter of the late James Willard McCutchen and Mildred Odell McClary McCutchen. She was a graduate of Kingstree High School, worked at Dubin's Department Store for numerous years, and retired from W.M. Anderson Primary School after many years of teaching Pre-K students. Justine was a dedicated homemaker who enjoyed sewing and refinishing furniture. She was a member of Kingstree Second Baptist Church.

Justine is survived by: her three sons, Jay (Brenda) Matthews, Timothy (Lisa) Matthews, and Jamie Matthews, all of Kingstree; two grandchildren, Scotty Matthews and Melanie Matthews; seven great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Cynthia (Bobby) Robinson and Charlene McKenzie, both of Kingstree; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband Dexter, Justine was preceded in death by sisters, Carol Gandy, Darlene Miles, and Clarice Mercer and a grandson, Ethan Hunter Matthews.

A graveside service for Justine will be held at 10 AM, Monday, December 1, 2025, at Kingstree Second Baptist Church Cemetery.
