Joseph Sugg Obituary

SNOW HILL | Mr. Joseph Elton "Joe" Sugg, 71, died Sunday, July 31, 2016, following a courageous battle with cancer that lasted for more than 10 years. A native and lifelong resident of Greene County, he was born September 20, 1944, the son of Allie Hooker and Bettie Hardy Sugg. After farming for more than 30 years, he began to work at Food Lion of Snow Hill in the produce department. At Food Lion he was affectionately known to his coworkers and customers as "Mr. Joe" and as recently as last week could be seen throughout the store tackling any project or doing any job. Joe was a member of Rainbow United Methodist Church.
Joe is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janie Harrison Sugg; daughter, Stephanie Jo Sugg-Fleming and husband, Stuart of Greenville; brothers, Allie Hardy Sugg and wife, Wilma, Travis Lee Sugg, and James Ronald Sugg and wife, Peggy, all of Snow Hill; and sister-in-law, Eleanor Sugg of Ayden. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by a brother, Melvin Ray Sugg of Ayden; sister-in-law, Faye M. Sugg of Snow Hill; and a very special aunt, Essie Nancy Sugg, also of Snow Hill.
Funeral Services will be held 3 PM Wednesday, August 3, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service with Pastor Patrick Keely officiating. Interment will immediately follow at the Snow Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday and other times at the Sugg residence. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 930 Wellness Drive, Greenville, NC 27834. Online condolences at www.taylor-tyson.com. Sign the guestbook at Kinston.com.
