Bernice and Marvin Olson welcomed me into their home and family in the early 1980s. I had just gone through a divorce, retired from the US Army, and was dating a close friend of their daughter Carolyn. As part of their extended family we joined the Olsons for holidays and birthdays. I remember their home as one of closeness, caring, laughter, and love.
Bernice made each gathering special: special foods, colorful decorations, presents, and a welcome hug at the door. During the Christmas-New Year holiday season, the kitchen refrigerator contained a secret recipe eggnog.
I remember Bernice with a warm smile, generous laugh, engaging personality, and an infectious inner positivity and sereneness.
While my life took me to work in Haiti and Cyprus, and finally retirement in Florida, we continued to keep in contact. Bernice was the writer in the family. Her annual Christmas newsletter detailed each major event of the year, both good and bad, and the happenings of children and grandchildren. I admire how she confronted obstacles with positivity and faith.
Bernice Olson lived a good life. A special person.
My heartfelt condolences to the family.

I did some home repairs for Bernice several times over the last ten years. She was always kind and pleasant to deal with and it was my pleasure to help her.
