To the family of John Kingsbury: I became acquainted with John In 1954 when he was at Port Orchard and I was at Shelton. I would would visit Jack Shero and John and we would go gooey duck digging. We had crew competition between our summer fire crews; much to my chagrin, John and Jack's crews would win. May John's soul rest in peace. Ken Herman

John's legacy includes a large family that has inherited his passion for the forest. I'm sure it was comforting for him to know that his land has a solid future of good stewardship by those he loved.

Had the honor of meeting John and his family a couple years ago doing some research on the State Division of Forestry and early DNR. We were able to arrange a tour and drive John to the top of Green Mountain and across the Tahuya State Forest. So many stories of a career well lived. John's legacy of family and forestry are strong and will provide good returns in perpetuity.

As a tall tree grows it touches the sky and plays with the playmates of God. Along the way it shades on hot days and inspires with its steadfast determination and grace. The day comes when it falls. What remains is not, as some would claim, a void in the grove but all of its progeny and the others who matured in its protection. John certainly has been among the greatest of his generation and he doesn't so much pass but passes on his love, inspiration, knowledge and enthusiasm, to countless many of us. May he Rest In Peace and others know he really did a job well done.

Our heartfelt condolences to the family.
I have been a friend and somewhat of a colleague of johns for many years and am amazed at Johns passion for the timber industry and WFFA tree farming. Tree farmer of the year was well dedicated to John and his entire family who work so hard to keep there tree farm in order.
So glad we attended last summers WFFA tree farm picnic and tour.
You will be remembered and missed John.

John was a leader & mentor to many at the Washington State Department of Natural Resources. He was also an advocate for proper forest management. I am lucky enough to view his handy work when I ride in west sound forests.
